As soon as I'm done changing, I throw open the curtain and head for the door.

"Amara slow down." Pansy calls at me as I pass her. She's wearing a pair of jeans almost identical to mine, but black, and a dark green jumper.

"I think we should get going, is all." I reply, aiming to slow my breathing.

"Okay then, I agree." She paused, turning around to face the rest of them. "Hurry up would you, we've got places to be."

Pansy doesn't know about the dark mark. I wanted it to be kept a secret for as long as possible. The only people who know are Draco and Enzo. Enzo found out by fault, it wasn't intentional but it happened. Draco was there when it happened, much to his disdain, he was furious when I volunteered to take his place.

Mattheo doesn't know. That's the worst part. Imagine his reaction when he finds out I'm bound to his father in that way. That's why I had to cut him off, cut off the feelings that sparked in us last year. I made up some shitty reason, told him that I didn't think it was a good idea with all that was going on. I left out the part about me being a registered death eater. Fuck.

"Amara." Mattheo says from beside me as we reach the door.

It pains me, to see him everyday and know what I lost. I want him. That's the truth. Our relationship healed more recently, bonded over the betrayal. Now we act like we used to, close friends.

"Are you alright?" He continues.

"Oh, yeah. Are you?"

"Yes I'm fine. Are you?"

"You already asked me that."

"Just making sure."

A moment of silence fills the gap, as we look at each other, no one knowing what to say.

"I was wondering, if you'd noticed much of a change in Draco recently?" Mattheo continues, grappling for a subject to talk about. Flickering back and forth, his gaze constantly changes from the path in front of us, and then back to me.

"What change did you have in mind?"

"He's... moody....er."

"He's always fucking moody."

"Yes but it seems like something is getting to him."

"It's probably this whole betrayal thing. Our whole lives he's been so loyal to our father, so willing to please him and the Dark Lord. It's probably just taking time to adjust. I mean you remember how he reacted when we told him we were the ones leaking information?"

"He wasn't fucking happy I remember that." Mattheo laughs gently.

"He came around quickly though, and he helped us do it so... I think all this is just a bit much at once."

"Not you though."

"Sorry?" My whole head turns to face him, confused.

"Not you. You seem to adjusted pretty well, you grew up in the same... conditions, yet you are up and running in this whole thing."

"I never felt the need to impress my father, I hated him and that was it. I didn't lap at his feet like Draco. I still cant decide if that was better or worse for me. I'm just glad you and I were on the same page.

"About which part?"

"The whole betrayal. It might have been my idea but it wouldn't have worked if you hadn't helped me first."

"Your welcome." He grins at me, a laugh threatening to escape from his lips.

"Guys!" A third voice shouts from ahead. We both look forward to see the rest of our friends stood around a sign on a lamppost.
