THE SANGANG TRAIN station was bustling. There were people everywhere, running around like headless chickens. Some trying to desperately control their excited children and others angrily interrogating guards about missing luggage.

I clutched my own suitcase tightly. It was my first time here. I didn't know anyone. Except for my dad, of course. I didn't even think I'd be able to recognise him. But I did.

He stood near the arrivals area, dressed up in his fire fighters uniform. He looked tired, and his hands were barely latching on the coffee cup he was drinking from. He was a lot balder than I remember. He had lost a lot of weight as well. But he looked almost the same.

I walked towards him, weaving my way through bundles of people. I watched as his eyes lit up and a smile plastered itself across his face as he saw me, waving his left arm in acknowledgment.

"Haejin!" he waved, and I pursed my lips. I could tell his smile was forced, but I decided not to think anything of it. We weren't close, even during the time he was still an active part of my life.

"Hi" I quietly mumbled, as he took the suitcase from me, and we began to walk towards the car park.

"It's been a while," he managed to say, as we walked, in hope to spark up a much needed conversation.

"It has," I said, looking down at my feet.

We walked only a short distance further before my dad led me to a black truck, a two seater in the front and a trailer at the back. He lifted my suitcase into the trailer, before opening the passenger door for me. I thanked him, before he shut my door and entered the drivers seat.

"Look, Haejin, I know this is a sudden change for you, but I hope we can set that aside and try our hardest to work together, ok?" he said, after taking a long breath.

I nodded.

The night before, my mother had told me the reason. My dad felt very alone and distanced from me, especially after my mother had decided to keep me in her custody after the divorce. And now, he wanted to spend time with me. To reconnect with me. But it wasn't going to be easy. I could feel the gap between us as he began to drive out of the train station, a hand occasionally rubbing an eye.
