WHEN HAEJIN WOKE up, the bed was empty. The fall sun glared through the windows, rays ever so persistent. The birds sang noisily, their off-tune songs still sounding beautiful to the ear. And as the cars began to flutter across those ever so lonely streets, the sound of silence was overthrown.
She groaned, turning on her back, one hand shielding her eyes from the bright sun. Her other hand was placed on her stomach, where she felt the fabric was crinkled. She closed her eyes.
And suddenly that feeling of passion and lust had returned to her.
She sighed. Her head turned to the alarm on the bedside table, red numbers glaring right back at her. Seven-fifty. Haejin rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand, letting out a tired groan as she sat up against the headboard of the bed, throwing the blanket off her body.
The room was empty.
Suddenly, the door to the bathroom unlocked, and out came Jungwon. His hair wet and covering his eyes, and a towel covering the lower half of his body.
Haejin's eyes grew wide upon seeing his abs, perfectly sculpted and on full display. He smirked, before disappearing into the walk in wardrobe, closing the door softly.
Haejin felt her cheeks get hot as she fell back on the bed, turning on her left and closing her eyes. As she heard the door open again, she opened one eye, checking if the coast was clear.
It was. Jungwon walked out, wearing a black t-shirt with a small white writing and grey shorts. He walked straight towards her, plopping down next to her.
His arms snaked around her waist, bringing her closer to him. The fresh scent of his cologne made her blush, as she pretended to sleep, shutting her eyes in a fruitful attempt to do so.
"Breakfast is ready," he said, in a sweet voice. Haejin turned over, her attempt to pretend going in vain hope as she simply couldn't resist this sweet temptation. As his hand ran down her right arm, fingers tracing the cut, she turned around.
"Is staying like this an option?" she grumbled, wrapping her arms around his neck, ruffling his wet hair. He shook his head. "Nope, your dad might get worried."
He got up from the bed, and she turned on her back, before sitting up abruptly. "Fuck," she murmured under her breath, face slapping herself in realisation. "He probably is."
Haejin manoeuvred her way through the fluffy duvet and made her way across to the desk where her purse lay. She rummaged through, finally finding her toothbrush which she had packed just in case. She practically ran into the bathroom, shutting it with a frantic slam.
After readying herself, Haejin ran down the stairs, taking a seat at the table. In front of her was a plate of her favourite food ever - waffles. Her eyes grew wide as she dug in. "Is this all for me?!" she exclaimed, looking up at the boy. "Yeah!"
The next couple of moments were silent. A comfortable yet awkward silence.
"You like the food?" Jungwon asked, raising a brow at the girl who was sitting in front of him. "It's really good," Haejin nodded, not wanting to speak with her mouth full. Waffles were her favourite, it took all of her willpower to not eat like a pig.
"It's surprisingly hot for fall, isn't it?" she asked, swatting away a wild mosquito that had began to flutter near her food. He nodded, staring at his fork, then the girl in front of him. "It definitely is. That's global warming for you!" he then placed his fork down, and wiped his hand on the napkin next to him. "You can stay for lunch if you would like. The cook won't be back until half-past noon however."
"They don't stay around?" she asked, finishing chewing a piece of waffle. He shook his head. "Nope, they all just come in and do their jobs then leave. It's a very convent cycle, for all of us!"
"It must be nice to have all of these people working for you," Haejin pouted. "You get to have so much free time!"
"But then things get boring," Jungwon defended, running a hand through his hair. "But that's where people like you come in, of course."
Haejin rolled her eyes at this flirtatious comment, deciding to ignore it. "We should go out for lunch instead. I don't know any good food places around here, you should show me some."
"Wow, you've just put an exorbitant amount of pressure on me," Jungwon joked sarcastically. "You can't go out in those though" he said, looking Haejin up and down.
She looked down at her clothes, cheeks reddening. "Shit, I don't have any clothes!" He reassured her. "Don't worry, I have some of my old shorts and hoodies you should be able to fit in."
"That is far too small, do you think I'm a child or something?!" Haejin complained, jaw dropping in disgust at the pair of Pokémon shorts Jungwon held up in front of her. "Ok ok," he airily dismissed her complaint. "Next one!"
"These would have been fashionable in the eighteen hundreds, no way I'm wearing this!" she loudly complained. These shorts were even uglier. Black shorts with tiny white frills along the waistband and seam. "Don't blame me, blame my mom!" He grumbled, throwing them onto his bed.
"Now these are better!" Haejin finally had a smile on her face. And who could blame for, for these shorts were certainly better than the rest. Denim shorts with slightly frayed ends. "Your so picky" he annoyingly added. Haejin stuck her tongue out at him, before pushing him slightly, clearing the entrance to the ensuite.
"I want to wear that black hoodie with the red writing," she said, skimming through the racks. "You remembered?" Jungwon asked, surprised at her attention to detail. "That doesn't matter, I just want the damn hoodie," Haejin dismissed, her expression still the same.
"I was going to wear it," he pouted, folding his arms across his chest. "Keep crying loser" Haejin's smile grew bigger as she took the hoodie off its hanger. She smiled sweetly at him before disappearing into the bathroom.
And if she could see just how red his cheeks were, she'd have known she wasn't the only one feeling the same way.
