You grab the envelope hesitantly, still eyeing Kakucho closely as he let go of it and you laid it on your lap, to open it up. You rip it open carefully, fully expecting some kind of check or letter or something, but definitely not, what you saw when it was opened up.
What was peeking out of the envelop was what you wanted, but not really expected to get. There was a huge amount of banknotes stacked inside and your eyes got even wider, when you reached inside to take out the money. Kakucho just sat there and watched you take it out and count it before putting it back inside. He eyed your fingers as you took one after another and placed it on your lap.
"Kakucho... That's 3,000 dollars... Why- uhm... Why are you giving it to me?" Your mouth stood agape and your eyes were empty when you looked at his face again, being met with a stern expression in his face and his lips pressed together.
"You said you wanted money to work for us, so - here it is." He answered you without hesitation and watched you closely. You drew your attention back to the envelope in your lap and switched your gaze from Kakucho to the envelope a few times before gulping down the lump, that has started to form in your throat and for the last time looking back to his eyes.
"I'm in."
You couldn't believe the words that left your lips and thoughts rushed your mind, reminding you of your past for the very first time since you moved here, where you thought you could forget. Where you thought, you could start a new life with Noah, and forget about everything that had happened before. You almost had to chuckle, reminiscing about your teenage years back at home, and now seeing your life to turn to darker paths again. You didn't want it, but somehow it was bound to happen. Somehow you had to accept, that now your life would change.
"Good. Now that you accepted, I will take you to our hideout a few minutes from here and clear up a few details there. It's where me and Sanzu brought you last time as well, but this time it will just be me and you." He didn't even bother waiting for your response, he just revved the car and drove off in the opposite direction. You were still staring at the green pieces of paper in your lap and put them in the pocket of your coat before getting out of the car, when you arrived at the mansion.
You were about to open the car door when it was opened from the outside, just like the last time you were here, and it was Kakucho again, whose hand was reaching out to yours again and wanted to help you get out of the car.
That bastard.
You gladly accepted his offer this time and held his hand while stepping out and making your way to the entrance of the large building, still as beautiful standing there as the first time you saw it. He opened the front door and you remembered the last time you were here, when you saw the brown leather couch again. You went inside and saw that he was telling the truth and nobody was there except for you and him, and you went over to sit down on one of the chairs again and wait for him to join and tell you about the 'job'.
He brought two beers and placed one unopened bottle in front of you on the living room table, also settling down, but across from you on the couch with a beer in his hand and a cigarette in the other. You reach inside your pocket and pull out your lighter to open your beer, because he obviously didn't think about opening yours as well, as he was already sipping on his.
*PLOP*
You opened your beer and the bottle cap flew a few inches before landing on the table and creating a ringing sound and you looked up at Kakucho pouting and raising his eyebrows at you.
"Still as impressive as the first time I saw it." He chuckled and took a drag of his cigarette. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?" you responded with your voice sounding playful and a smug smile gracing your lips. You also lit a cigarette and took the first drag before lifting up your bottle and taking a sip, leaning back in the comfy chair.
"What if I did?" he replies, while mirroring your smile, and you could feel some tension building up.
You tried to push away the lewd thoughts, that came to your mind and tried to turn your attention back to the original mission; to work for them. And to find out, how and when this should go down, or what the whole plan is now. You wanted to break the tension a little and started asking questions about when this 'job' would start and if he is going to give you instructions or what, since you have never worked for anyone in that context.
"Am I going to get money as a reward for every mission that's done? And for how long will this be going on?" Oops. Sometimes when you're with Kakucho your real self comes out, just because you feel so comfortable around him and he sometimes joins in on your cheeky comments and you forget to hold back your boldness.
"We'll see." He smirked at you, while you just held your mouth shut because you, AGAIN, just could hardly hold back to be a little cocky. "... this will be going on until we find the spy at CompX for the time being. Depending on the outcome of this mission, Mikey will decide what will happen to you in the future." You frowned a little at what you heard and asked Kakucho if that is all that you needed to know for now. He shook his head and his expression got serious, before he started to speak to you again.
"You need to deliver pills for us again. Tomorrow. Same procedure as the last time." His response was short and clear.
His words echoed through your mind.
Tomorrow.
