Masquerading world

The only true me was when I was silent
With no words, left only to my thoughts
Tears unhidden by seeming laughter
Fears unconcealed by rioting emotions
And sorrows not mistaken for unending happiness

I'm a soul worn out by life
Once full of life, only a husk left now
I'm a soul worn out by love
Once my eyes glowed with joy of storytelling
Now the magic's gone
I'm a soul worn out by the world
Once empathetic to all whom I met
Now, with a false smile masking unintended apathy

I'm a soul masquerading in a world of humans who seem no different than I am
The only difference is in how inept the deception.

For the few left in this world,
Whose eyes still glow with storytelling
Whose hearts still beat with sincere love for all
And whose magic of living still exist, reviving the dead ones
The world must protect
For as long as they cease not to exist
Life in its whole can move on
Just as God intended.

AFTERNOTE

They taught us the world was cruel
And so we all had to wear masks
To live, and to be safe.

But all our joys were taken,
The moment we were told not to dream;
Because the world was cruel,
And we needed to be safe.
