(Two months later)
The buzz of my phone makes my eyes pop open. I wasn't sleeping though. Even through I don't need to be awake at three in the morning, my mind thinks I'm still nocturnal. I grab my phone and don't even look at who's calling because there's only one person that would be up at this hour.
"What are you doing on this fine night?" I sarcastically say.
"Oh, you know. Just getting ready to go to a party. Oh, maybe I'll stop by the barn too." Justin laughs.
"Teaching anymore kids that claim they never want to see a horse again?"
"Plenty" He laughs. "So, what's up?"
"Nothing, I tried to sleep but you know how that goes."
"Sadly, one of these days we'll sleep through the night."
"Yeah, by the time I'm thirty."
"Oh! Before I forget to ask you, are you going to show Harry at Winners Circle next weekend? Maggy wanted me to ask you if you wanted to go."
"Winners Circle?" I ask as I sit up and grab my lap top off my night table. "Give me a sec., I'm checking my schedule."
Aspen has been incredible! So Brandon has set up a whole schedule of schooling days and show days. I haven't shown him yet but I can't wait to see what he could do off property! Not only that but Brandon thinks that it's also a great time to try to get project horses. And the best way to do that is to show a green horse to let everybody see how far he's come.
Sadly, that show is the same day as Winners Circle. "ugh, sorry Justin. I've got another show that day. First show on Aspen!"
"That's fun! You guys ready?"
"Ready enough. He's not perfect but at least now I can touch his face with him wanted to be a giraffe!"
He chuckles, "That's improvement! Too bad I've got a student showing or I would come and watch."
"Don't worry about it. It's not like a super huge deal. Plus, I'm sure your student needs you more than I do."
"It's Katie who's going." he laughs because Katie is a eleven year old who's had a crush on Justin since she first started boarding at our barn.
"Oh man, now you really do have to go!"
"I'm afraid to what might happen if I don't!" He laughs.
"Make sure her pony doesn't kill her!" Although it's a cute roan, welsh pony cross, he can be a little evil at times. Katie gets a little worried when he gets like that, but with a bit of coaching she usually sticks with it and shows him who's boss.
"I'll try!"
I close my lap top and lay back down with a flop. "I'm gonna try and get some sleep. I have to be up early tomorrow for my lesson."
"Same, I'll try to be a normal human and sleep through the rest of the night." he laughs mostly to himself.
"That's probably not going to happen. I'll tell you how my lesson goes tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay, don't work yourself to hard." He says that every night and I know exactly why. I leave the house at six in the morning, sometimes earlier, ride Aspen and help out the grooms at Two Trees, then I make my why to Maggy's barn and do a hundred things there. By the time I get home it's seven at night and I barley have enough energy to take a shower and shove food in my mouth. Yet, I still wake up every night at three in the morning, makes sense right?
"I won't, love you."
"Love you too."
I plug in my phone and stare at the ceiling another hour before finally falling asleep.
