I unlock the front door to Lucas's giant mansion and step inside to the empty house. Exhausted, I drop all my stuff to the floor. I turn around and scream at the chauffeur standing behind me.
"I'm sorry miss. I didn't mean to scare you but I forgot to tell you that your room is the first one on the right up the two flights of stairs. Also, since you don't have a car, you can take the golf cart out to the show grounds. The keys are in the second draw to the left to the stove. Do you need anything before I leave?"
"No thank you." I smile at the chauffeur and he nods and walks out.
I sigh and take myself on a tour through the house after I dropped all my stuff in the room that I'm staying in. All the floors are dark wood, all the walls are a cream colored badge that stays consistent through the entire house. I make my way to the backyard and nod as I see an in ground pool with a slide that looks like it was made for a waterpark. Over to the right corner of the backyard is a fire pit and a hamic.
"Yup" I say to myself as I stride over to the hamic. I easily get in it and start swinging because I'm not the person that can just lounge. I quickly got bored and I try to push myself up but the hamic wobbles then suddenly flips over sending me into the ground with a loud thud.
"Oof" I stay down for a second then laugh at myself. I should've known that my uncoordinated self would get bucked off the hamic. I peel myself off the grass and limp back into the house.
I grab a water bottle out of the fridge before heading up the two flights of stairs into my room for the next 8 weeks. I grab my laptop out of my case and sit on the bed with it and a a text message pops up on the corner of the screen. I smile forms across my face when I see its from Liam telling me when the party is. Tomorrow night.
That works out great, Lucas and Brandon arrive in Florida with the horses tomorrow but we don't start showing for another two days. So, even though I am no partier, I can stay out late and sleep in without missing anything. I answer him back saying that I'll be there. I think about adding an emoji but quickly disregard the idea, emoji's are for flirting or for talking to your best friend. And although I want to flirt with him, I just see it blowing up in flames around me if I try to even think about flirting.
I move on with everything and decide to watch the USEF network on demand section of the Spruce Meadows show that I forgot to watch a couple of weeks ago.

I wake up later than I usually do on weekdays. I contemplate what I should do for the whole day until the party. I would go help unload the horse when they arrive but my mom somehow got Brandon and Lucas to agree to not tell me when they arrive so that I can get "rest" before a "very stressful" show season ahead of me. Okay, I agree that it's going to be stressful but how stressful could unloading horses be? But whatever, I'm here and that's all that matters.
I paddle down the stairs and into the open kitchen and grab some orange juice. Then I have absolutely no idea what to do with my life.
I sit in silence, stare at the wall, walk outside and stare at the pool. Then finally resort to endless scrolling through social media. I wasn't expecting a text from Liam.
I'm not used to this whole phone thing. I asked for it back after a year of going without one and in some ways it's better, but in others I wish I could through it in the pool.
Just reminding you about the party tonight. Hope to see you there!
I would just answer yes and move on with my day but I wanted to keep the conversation going.
Wouldn't miss it! Hey, what kind of party is it? I don't know what to wear.
I send it before thinking and mentally freak out. Great. Now he's going to think that I'm one of those girls that care what they wear. Perfect. Just perfect.
My phone buzzes soon after and I'm surprised, I think it's just casual. But I honestly have no idea even though I should after being to it so many times.
I sigh of relief and ask why he doesn't know (Jokingly of course).
Well, I usually don't come out of my room. Sorry to be honest with you, but I'm a bit anti-social with new people.
I semi-scream. He is me. Oh my god, this is great.
We spend most of the day talking until he had to go do some go to go some kind of journalism thing with McClain before the party.
I then have three hours until the party but I decide to get ready now so that I'm not scrabbling later to be ready in time. And I knew that I had to put a little extra time into my outfit then just throwing jeans and a t-shirt that are debatably clean.
I stare at my still packed suitcase and finally throw one dark denim jeans with a light purple button down to make myself look a tad more classy. Then I throw one some sandals and I'm ready to go. I walk past a mirror and stop short at the look at my hair, wavy and knotted.
I sigh and walk back to my suitcase and pull out my straighter that I almost didn't bring but I now have to call my mom and thank her for sneaking it into my suitcase.
An hour later my hair looks better than it has in years and I'm ready to go. But of course I still have time to kill so I put on music from my soundcloud app and grab a glass of water.
My playlist has over 200 hundred songs and about an hour into then I begin to have a dance party... by myself. Ten minutes later Downtown my Macklemore and Ryan Lewis came on and I went full out. Singing along, dancing with my awful dance moves but I didn't care.
Not until I belting out "I'm going 38 Dan" and sin around to see Lucas staring at me with a smug look on his face.
I turn the music off and he smirks. "So I see you made yourself fairly comfortable."
I roll my eyes "Haha very funny."
I grab my phone call the chauffeur to come pick me up. "So that's why you were dresses oddly nice for spending the day in a house. So where are you going."
"Out"
He stares at me. "You have to tell me."
"No I don't. But If you need to know, I'm going to a party to see someone... well two people technically. "
"A party? I'm coming."
"No"
"Yes, It's my responsibility to take care of you and I'm guessing you just met this person and got invited to a random party."
"How did you know? Maybe I have friends here."
"The great thing about your mother is that she told me everything. Including that you have no relatives or friends here so I took a wild guess."
I roll my eyes. "Aren't you tired? You did just drive fourteen hours."
"Nah, Brandon did all the driving while I sat shotgun and took a fourteen hour nap. And besides, I really am responsible for anything that happens to you so I kind of have to go."
"Fine" I mumble.
"Great. Oh and I'm required to ask... did you eat anything?"
I stare at him with guilt and he sighs, "Gina, you weren't even busy today or yesterday." He says in a quiet voice. I don't say anything but I look down and don't look into his worried hazel eyes. "Can you please eat something before we go?"
I nod my head and watch him walk over to the kitchen cabinets full of snack but he comes back with a single protein bar. My stomach grumbles and I realize how hungry I really am and I scarf it down within seconds. "See? I'm fine. Can we go now." I'm completely over this whole scene.
"Yeah, come on. Let's go party."
I can't believe what I just got myself into.
