"And this is the barn I share with Lucas." I explain to Justin who's standing next to me in awe.
"This place it beautiful!" He says looking up at the ceiling.
I came to Two Trees super early with Justin to give him the grand tour. So far his jaw has been dropped open the entire time.
I laugh to myself at it. Yeah, it's a really nice barn. Even I was amazed when I came here, but it's nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to owners that have money and like well organized things, but then I remember that Justin only ever knew Maggy's barn. Don't get me wrong, Maggys place is gorgeous, just on a much lower scale than here.
"Come on" I walk forward, "Help me tack Aspen for my lesson."
Justin follows, still looking around at every detail in the barn.
I pull Aspen out and take brushes out of his tack box.
Handing a curry to Justin, he asks,"This guy's a Thoroughbred?"
"Yeah" I start to curry one side, "he's not your average lean TB. I swear he's 99% muscle and the rest, he came with that build." Since he's already clean, Justin and I switch to brushes. "To me he looks more like a Hunter, but he's got a few quirks jumping that wouldn't be allowed in the Hunger ring."
"And he's too slow in the Jumpers so he fits right in in the eq." Justin finishes for me.
"Right" I grab a hoof pick and start to pick out his hooves.
"Carlos, Harvard was supposed to be ready by now!" That was no doubt Lucas yelling at his own mistake most likely.
I involuntary roll my eyes and place a saddle pad on Aspens back. By the time I have the saddle on, Lucas comes strolling in.
I look over at Justin, "Be nice" I say and he nods.
"Hey Gina, who's this."
I ignore him like I have been but Justin steps forward and hold out his hand, "I'm Justin, Gina's boyfriend."
Lucas nods and looks at the two of us before shaking Justin's hand. "Lucas."
That same, stupid smirk appears on his face. Shit, I think. What is he planning on doing now? He won't dare make a move on me with Justin here. Would he?
"How do you deal with a girl like her?"
"Excuse me?" Justin try's to hold in his anger.
"Her mood swings, her attitude, don't you get tired of it?"
I can tell Justin is trying to be good. But it's not going to last much longer. The tension in here just went up about 100%, I have to do something.
"Justin, can you put Aspens boots on while I talk to Lucas , please?"
He nods and slowly turns around. Lucas starts to say, "wow, so bossy-" but I grab his ear and drag him to the other end the the barn and into the tack room.
"Why?" I keep my voice low, "Why do you have to always cause something? You, yourself said that you wanted to make it up to me. But what your doing right now isn't the way." I unknowingly lean my hand on an open tack trunk. "You want to make it up to me. Start by being nice to Justin, because what you just did didn't make him like you any more. He already doesn't like you in the first place!"
Lucas's eyes widen, "You told him?"
"Of course I told him!" I unknowingly shift and somehow hit the lid of the tack trunk. It comes smashing down on my hand.
The pain. For a stupid lid, it hurt! I run over to the big water bowl that's meant for Sausage, Brandon's dog that lives here that I've never seen. I stick my hand into it, relieved as the ice cold water surrounds my hand.
