Beauty in chaos

Jay sat at the Ravenclaw table, anxiety growing every second. He had no one to talk to, and every moment of silence made his panic increase. He was on the verge of his breaking point when he heard a soft female voice.

"Hello," it said. He looked up from the table and saw a girl sitting across from him. She was pale, like him, and had waist length straggly-looking, dirty blonde hair. Her eyes were large, bright and gray, and her wand was tucked behind her ear. "Are you quite alright? You seem a bit stressed. I can see the wrackspurts flying all around you."

"I'm not, really," he said. "All of my friends are in other houses and I've never really done anything without them before, and that means I don't have anyone to talk to, and when I don't talk to people for too long I get really anxious, and I mean like really anxious..." He didn't know how long he talked for, but for the entire time the girl sat there and listened to him, occasionally adding a bit of information to do with what he had to say, to show that she was listening. "Anyway," he said finally. "I'm Jay. What's your name?"

"I'm Luna Lovegood," she said. She was silent for a moment. "Are we friends now?"

"I suppose so," said Jay.

"Oh, alright then," she said cheerfully. "You see, I don't have very many friends."

"I don't see why that would be," replied Jay. "I think you're a lovely friend." Luna smiled.

"Oh!" she exclaimed suddenly. "I suppose I should show you the common room." She got up from the bench and started to walk out of the hall. Jay followed her, talking a bit along the way. As they walked up the moving staircases, Jay looked to his right and Zane, looking quite pissed off, giving a Slytherin girl what looked like a stern talking-to. Jay smiled to himself. May the First Spinjistu Master help whoever had been stupid enough to piss off Zane. After quite a bit of walking, they arrived at a blue door with a bronze eagle doorknocker. Jay watched in awe as the eagle started to speak.

"If you have it, you can't share it, and if you share it you can't have it," it said. It sounded old, almost ancient. After a moment of silence, Luna spoke up.

"Is it... a secret?" she asked. The navy blue double doors slowly swung open. There was so much to look at. The ceiling was painted a deep blue and decorated with glowing stars. The walls were covered by towering bookshelves from floor to ceiling. The whole room was decorated in so many different ways, but the beauty of it all made it all blend together into a mass of pure creativity. The fluffy carpet was stained by ink in some spots, and every wooden surface seemed to be almost entirely covered with various stickers. On a small overhanging balcony sat a grand piano that was currently playing "Connection" by Elastica on its own. One group of students were chatting with each other while painting the scene, another group was singing along with the piano, and a third looked to be having a heated discussion in sign language. As he stepped inside the room he felt a warm waft of air, but not too hot so that he would be uncomfortable. One girl in the group of singers noticed him and stopped singing. She was pale, had long, shiny, black hair, and a few freckles on the bridge of her nose. She looked shorter than he was, which he wasn't used to. She walked up to him and seemed to float above the ground as she moved.

"Hello," she said sweetly. "I'm Cho Chang. What's your name?" She looked up at him with glistening brown eyes. Her eyelashes were long and dotted with moisture. She was pretty, but nowhere near as pretty as Nya.

"My name's Jay," he answered cheerfully. "It's nice to meet you Cho."

"Your dormitories are up there," she said, gesturing to a staircase leading up. He nodded greatfully and headed up the stairs. As he entered the room, he was overwhelmed by the smell of petrichor. It was official. He loved being a Ravenclaw.
