Lloyd yawned. He slept well last night. He couldn't remember the last time that happened. Cole, he thought. Cole talked to him yesterday. He knew what he was going through. The thought comforted him slightly. He pulled on a long sleeved black shirt and a green cat tee over it. He pulled on a pair of black skinny jeans and Kai's red chucks. He left them untied. He didn't feel like going through the effort of tying them today. He heads to the bathroom and looks in the mirror. His fangs were poking out slightly. He winced as he forced them back in. He gasped as he was suddenly wracked with pain. It was another energy burst. He knew now that this was his subconscious trying to force out the energy, and him resisting was causing him pain. But he couldn't let it out, not now, it would cause too much destruction. He gasped as another wave of excruciating pain washed over him. Tears leaked from his eyes, despite his efforts to keep them in. Eventually the pain resided. He still could feel the build-up of energy, but the worst was over. He bit his lip and squeaked in pain. His fangs were poking out again. He was about to pull them back in, but then he remembered what Cole had said to him yesterday. Leave your fangs out, he had said to him. It looks cool. He carefully let his fangs slide out all the way. He sighed in relief as the pain subsided a little. He looked at himself in the mirror and groaned. He looked like a monster. But he had decided to trust Cole. He carefully aligned his mouth so that they wouldn't show, and walked out of the room. He slid down the banister, careful not to smile and reveal his demonic heritage. He shuffled into the great hall and sat down next to Ron.
"Morning, mate," he said cheerfully. Lloyd nodded by way of greeting. Then he realised. How was he going to eat without revealing his teeth? He'd have to pull them in, but just when he was eating. He sucked his fangs back in, wincing at the pain. "Oy, are you alright?"
"Yeah," he lied. "I'm fine."
"Oh," said Ginny excitedly from across the table. "Did you hear about the two new Slytherin students? Kai and Nya?" Lloyd raised his eyebrows. What did the iconic Smiths do now?
"No," said Harry. "What happened?"
"They've got, like, super powers!" she exclaimed. Lloyd's eyes widened. He knew about Kai, but Nya? He thought that she could keep hers a secret. There was a loud bang, and the doors to the great hall flew open. He turned and could hardly stop himself from laughing. There stood Kai and Nya, both wearing dark sunglasses. Balls of fire and water floated around them as they walked towards the Slytherin table. Lloyd rolled his eyes. Unfortunately for him, Ron noticed.
"Wait did you know about this?" he asked.
"Yeah," he said casually. "We're practically siblings. I know everything about them. Ask me a question, and I can probably give you the answer."
"Is Kai single?" asked Ginny. Lloyd spit out his drink.
"Wha-" he spluttered. The whole group looked at her in shock.
"What?" she asked. "You've gotta admit. He's pretty hot."
"I mean she's not wrong," muttered Harry. He immediately regretted saying this as the entire table gasped and stared at him. "I mean- he's just- well I-"
"He is," said Lloyd, coming to his friend's rescue. "And he's bisexual." He winked at Harry who gave him a weak smile. "But when it comes to his dating status, well, it's complicated. I think he likes this girl named Skylor, and I think she likes him back, but they're not dating yet." He got up and brushed off his shirt. "Well, I'm going to the library. I've got some studying to do." As he walked out of the great hall, he could hear Kai and Nya talking and laughing with some other students. He wished it could be that easy for him. He flinched as a small burst of pain jolted through him. Right, his fangs. He'd let them out once he was alone in the library. He walked quicker, excited to feel the freedom again. Unfortunately, he wasn't looking where was going. He bumped into someone. Someone much larger than himself. Well fuck. It was Marcus Flint, a seventh year Slytherin.
"Hey, kid," he said loudly. "What do you think you're doing?" A couple of people stopped to see what the fuss was about.
"I'm sorry, Flint," he started to say. "I didn't mean any harm, I was just-"
"Oh shut up," said Flint, cracking his knuckles. "I didn't really care anyway." Before Lloyd could react, he felt Marcus's fist connect with his jaw. He stumbled backwards. For a big guy, he was fast. Flint laughed. "Did you really think that just because you know the Smiths, I wouldn't do this!" He swung again, this time hitting Lloyd in the chest. He fell to the floor and began gasping for breath. The Slytherin raised his foot to stomp on him, but Lloyd rolled out of the way. "Come back here, Twink!" He raised his foot again, and this time landed a hit right on his head. His head was ringing a bit, but he'd been through worse. He looked up and saw that a great crowd of people were watching him and Flint. Some were cheering on Flint, others were begging for him to stop. Then he saw Cole staring at him intently. They locked eyes. Cole nodded subtly at him and Lloyd nodded back. He got up off the ground, without wincing thanks of years of practice. People around him gasped at how unfazed he was. He stood up straight, and looked the boy in the eyes. He was much shorter than him; much, much shorter.
"You know," he said confidently. "You should really stop picking on people like me." A few Slytherins oohed mockingly.
"Oh yeah," said Flint with a laugh. "And why's that?" Flint tried to hit him again, but he was ready. He jumped over the taller boy and flipped in the air, landing gracefully on the other's shoulders.
"Because it'll come back to bite you in the ass." he whispered in his ear. Flint tried to grab him, but he was too fast. Lloyd backflipped off of his shoulders and landed in a Spider-Man position behind him. A few Muggleborns started singing the theme song much to Lloyd's enjoyment. Flint turned around confusedly. Lloyd ran up to him and leapt into the air, delivering a powerful right hook to his opponents face. The tall boy stumbled backwards.
"How'd you do that?" he asked, rubbing the side of his face. "You're just some random kid." Lloyd laughed.
"Oh but I'm not," he said with a smirk.
"What do you mean?" asked the Slytherin. "You're human just like the rest of us." Lloyd chuckled.
"That's what you'd think, isn't it?" he said, just loud enough for the crowd to hear. Flint and the other students watched as Lloyd brushed his hair out of his face. He sighed softly and let his canines extend to their full length. "The thing is," he said, careful not to reveal his fangs just yet. "I'm not fully human. Half-breeds. I think that's what you tend to call us. I'm only half human." He grinned broadly, revealing his full fangs in all of their glory. The crowd gasped. Some I shock, some in terror.
"You're a monster!" Flint exclaimed. But before he could do anything there was an explosion of fire.
"He's not a monster!" yelled Kai. He walked up to them, his hair pure flame. "If he's a monster, then so am I."
"As am I," said Nya, walking up to join them with water bubbles floating behind her. "And if you've got a problem with that..." she paused, staring menacingly at the crowd. "THEN YOU CAN FUCK OFF!"
