❝I think we are somewhere in the middle of love and friendship.❞

Ved walked past me. Baba greeted him and gave him a warm hug. He further gave a quick hug to Mamma. They asked him general questions, which he answered obediently. I shook my head in disappointment. Why does he even get nervous around them?
"Come, sit, boy," Chachu said as they all walked to the couches. I closed the door and followed them there.
Ved settled with Baba on his side. I seated opposite him between Chachu and Mamma. Bhai and Milo were seated on the adjacent couch.
"How is work going?" Baba asked. "Well. Nothing much is happening. Just the regular stuff. Rushing here and there when news is reported," He said.
"You are not in the newsroom yet?" Chachu asked. "Newsroom? No, not yet. But I have progressed a little. I am not just for scriptwriting now. I faced the camera a couple of times," He said awkwardly.
Baba patted his back. "That's great. I'm sure you'll be in the newsroom soon as well, or would you like to be on the field?" He asked.
"I would love to get promoted in my work. Anyhow, it is. The field is good, but I guess I would like to be in the studio as well," He said with unsurety. I wonder sometimes if he even liked what he was doing. The excitement was clearly missing from his face when he talked about work.
Baba and others smiled apart from me. I kept frowning at him and he kept ignoring me.
"How are your parents?" Mamma asked. His posture changed a little. My frown faded as I knew how sensitive this was for him. He still smiled.
"Good, I suppose. They have filed for divorce. Anyway, they were living separately. So, it doesn't really matter," He said while playing with his fingers. He chuckled awkwardly and looked down at his hands.
Baba put a hand over his shoulder. "Come here often, Ved. We are right here for you. You are part of this family, but you don't consider us. What to do?" He said.
"It's not that, uncle..." He was saying, but Mamma cut him.
"No excuses, Ved. I better see you here every weekend. It's fine for weekdays as well, but I want you here on weekends without fail," She said. Ved smiled but nodded. "I can't disobey you," He said.
"Good," Mamma said. "No one could," Baba added as people laughed. I chuckled as well.
Mamma glared at him. He made a face. She shook her head in disappointment.
"We gave you so much trouble in the past days," Mamma said further.
Ved shook his head. "I have given you enough trouble. That was nothing," He said.
