Chapter 5: prom and parties

I sit in the penalty box as I watch the rest of my teammates play. I hate the penalty box, it makes me wanna die. Coach was already glaring at me from across the ice which didn't make this any better.

I stare at the timer and feel my heart pound against my chest, time is almost up. We were tied and I did not want overtime. I watch Garrett steal the puck and I feel my heart race faster and faster. Come on, come on. He could do it. He does a stutter with the puck to throw our opponent off before he hits a straight shot into the goal. I jump to my feet and cheer, everyone starts screaming. I quickly skate out of the penalty box and skate over to him.
We throw our arms around each other, cheering. This was my favorite part of hockey, the victory.

I walk out of the locker rooms and everyone is happy and excited about our win.

Chris begins to laugh and talk about some weird theory he had about fish but I totally tune him out, because that's what you have to do when he starts saying stupid shit. Everyone who knows Chris knows that. I look at him and smile as I nod before I look ahead of me and my heart skips a beat when I see Taylor. She was with Lily and my sister. They were all laughing, she was smiling as they continued to talk.

We start to get closer to them before she looks over at us and smiles, freakishly. She's never smiled at me like that before. I start to lift my hand up to wave at her before I hear another voice.

"Tay-Tay!!" I hear Garrett cheer.

I drop my hand and stop walking as he runs past me, he runs up to her and lifts her up, spinning her in a circle as they hug.

She was smiling at him. Not me.

"Dude, you good?" Chris asks, breaking me from my thoughts.

I force a smile and nod before we both walk up to them. Jake follows us as we all stand together talking.

"Congrats on the win again, guys." Taylor smiles.

"Thank you, Tay-Tay." Chris says.

I smile and nod before Jules walks up to us.

"Great job guys." She says.

"Thanks." We all say.

"So, party at our place tonight?" Garrett asks as he throws his arm over Tay-Tay's shoulder.

"Fuck yeah." Chris cheers.

We all head back to the house and get ready for the party. As usual the house fills up with people, I stay in the kitchen where the drinks are. I continued to down more and more alcohol to distract myself from Taylor and Garrett were across the room, laughing with a group of people. I wish I was a better friend to Garrett, he deserved a better friend.

I sigh before taking another sip of my drink just as Taylor walks over to me with a smile on her face.

"You're really enjoying the alcohol, huh?" She laughs.

I stare at her, "Yeah, love it."

"I need to get drunk. I barely drank anything yet." She says.

"Go for it." I tell her as I hand her an empty, red solo cup.

She takes it from me and starts making her drink while I just watch her, admiring her. I can't believe that Garrett gets to wake up next to this girl, show her off, and just love her openly.

I shouldn't be around her while being this drunk. But I couldn't walk away from her. Fuck my life.

"Rocky!" I hear her voice.
