"Throw It All Away"- Brandi Carlie
I stare at my resume for The Grill which was ass. There was no way I was gonna get hired there, but I was still going to try. I mean it's a server job, it can't be that hard.
My phone rings and I look at my dad's contact fill the screen. Fuck me. They've been sending me money for school but it's not going anywhere but into a savings account. I was gonna give them all their money back when I figured out how to tell them I wasn't in college anymore. Until then, I was just going to ignore their calls and say I was really swamped with school and hopefully this new job.
I hear a small groan from behind me making me turn around in my chair. I smile as I watch Brennen slowly sit up in my bed.
"Morning, sleeping beauty." I voice.
He looks at me as he rubs his tired eyes, "Why am I in your room?"
"You were kind of drunk last night and ended up here." I explain.
His face turns red. He cried a lot, he cried in my arms about another girl. It was painful to watch. How could he cry about not being enough when all this time I was here? He was more than enough for me.
"Sorry." He mutters.
I just stare at him. I wanted to ask him what he meant when he said that he loses everything he loves. He didn't lose me. I lost him. But now he loves someone else.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" I ask him.
He immediately shakes his head, "No, please. I barely even remember anything."
I sigh and nod before turning back to my laptop screen that had my resume open on it. I couldn't focus anymore. I just wanted to scream and cry or just punch Brennen in the face.
I like the second option better,
"What are you doing there?" I hear his voice right behind me. I look over my shoulder and see him standing behind me looking at my laptop.
"I'm trying to write this stupid resume for The Grill but it's ass." I explain.
"Why do you even need this job?" He asks.
"Because I'm dead broke." I tell him.
"Your parents are rich. You are not broke." He points out.
"Yeah, well, I hate my parents. And the last thing I want is their money." I remind him.
He looks at me, "So you're going to work with Taylor, huh?"
"Yeah, you want to put a good word in for ya? You know, talk you up with her." I mock him.
He rolls his eyes, "Shut up."
I laugh as I watch him sit on the edge of my bed and look at me. I turn my chair around and look at him as he smiles at me.
"Wanna go get some hangover food?" He asked me.
I smile, "Yeah, I need to get away from this laptop."
He stands up and holds his hand out for me. I smile as I take a hold of his hand and we make our way out of the room.
We drove down to McDonalds to grab food and parked in the parking lot and ate our food. It was quiet, we just sat there. Not the awkward kind of silence, it was comforting.
"Remember when we used to sneak out when you and Norah would have sleepovers?" He breaks the silence.
I look at him and smile, "Yeah." I say.
