Harper stands in a cluster full of Gryffindors, across from him are Marcus Sawyer and the other Slytherins, he knows Marcus's names from Neville and Seamus. Between them, there is a long line of broomsticks lining up beside them.

Harper turned his head to Madame Hooch, a witch with short grey hair and hawk-like eyes.

"Welcome to your first Flying Lesson." Madame Hooch said, looking between the two groups. "Well, what are you all waiting for? Everyone step up to a broomstick. Come now. Hurry up."

Harper steps forward nervously, glancing down at the broom.

"Stick out your right hand, over the broom and say Up!"

Harper said the word under his breath and the broom instantly snaps into his hand making him smile. He looked to the side at Harry and Ron, letting out a soft giggle when the broom hits Ron right on the nose.

"Shut up, Harper." Ron said fondly, though he let out a laugh of his own himself. Harper have such a beautiful laugh.

Harper shakes his head softly, turning back to Madame Hooch.

"Now. Once you've got a hold of the broom, I want you to mount it. And grip it tight. We don't want you sliding off the end." Madame Hooch said, walking the row of students before stopping by Seamus. "Your other right hand, Mr. Finnegan. Goodness, boy, what have you done with your eyebrows?"

"Lost 'em, ma'am." Seamus answered.

"Excuse me, Madam Hooch." Draco spoke, gaining the woman's attention as she turned to look at him. "Given that a few of us have been on sticks for years, would it not make sense to separate the expert flyers from... the neophytes?" He questioned, glancing at Harry secretly.

"Thank you, Mr. Malfoy, but I'm sure even an expert flyer such as yourself can appreciate the benefits of reacquainting oneself with the basics. Your grip, for example. It's thumb in, not out." Madame Hooch said. Draco's face turned red with embarrassment as Harry and Ron share a grin.

"Very well. Now when I blow my whistle, I want each of you to kick off from the ground. Hard." Madame Hooch said. "Keep your brooms steady, hover for a moment, then lean forward slightly and touch back down." She instructed, watching everyone do what she had said before raising her whistle up to her mouth. "On my whistle... Three... Two..."

Harper looked to his side when he heard Neville letting out a nervous sound and saw him shoot straight up into the air, almost hitting Marcus if he didn't duck down.

Harper watched Neville clutching desperately to his broom, the boy caroms crazily off a tree, flops upside down, rockets past the other students, who duck, then soars into a mad spiraling climb. He did notice Marcus is right on Neville's tail though.

Harper heard the others gasped when Neville fall from the torch he was hanging on. But before Neville could hit the ground, Marcus catches him and safely places him on the ground.

Harper and the others quickly ran towards Neville and Marcus, Madame Hooch pushing past him and checking up on Neville that is still in shock.

"Thank you, Marcus. Come on now, let's go and check you for injuries." Madame Hooch said, gently pulling Neville up and turning to the students. "Everyone's to keep their feet firmly on the ground while I take Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing. Understand? If I see a single broom in the air, the one riding it will find themselves out of Hogwarts before they can say, Quidditch. And Marcus, you can follow with if you want."

Harper watched as Marcus nods, taking his broom from the Slytherin. Marcus giving him a grateful smile before trailing after Neville and Madame Hooch.

Harper turned around when he heard a laughs from Draco, noticing the blond is holding onto Neville's Remembrall.

"Did you see his face? Perhaps if the great lump had given this a squeeze, he would've remembered to fall on his fat arse." Draco said as one of his friends forcefully takes Marcus' broom from Harper. Harper almost falling down if it wasn't for Ron grasping his arm.

"Give it here, Malfoy." Harry said, moving forward.

"No, I think I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to find. How about up a tree?" Draco said, slinging a leg over his broom and kicks into the air before turning to look at Harry. "What's the matter, Potter? A bit beyond your reach?"

Harry narrowed his eyes at Malfoy, grabbing his broom but was stopped by Hermione before he could fly up to the blond.

"Harry! No! You heard what Madame Hooch said. Besides you don't even know how to fly." Hermione said.

Harry shoots up into the sky, not listening to Hermione and hovers by Draco.

"I wish I was as good as him..." Ron muttered, not noticing that Harper is still by his side. He almost jumped when he feel a hand dragging him away from the others before he relaxed when he notice that Harper is the one who dragged him away.

"Don't do that." Harper said, looking up sharply at Ron, filling the Weasley with surprise.

"Do what?" Ron asked, acting like he doesn't know what the brunette is talking about, turning his head away to look at the wall over Harper's head.

"Put yourself down." Harper said, huffing when Ron didn't even glance at him. He cupped Ron's face into his hands, turning his head to look at him straight in the eyes. "Ron, you shouldn't compare yourself to others." He said, stopping Ron from talking by placing his hand up. "We all have our talents, I'm sure you do too. And I say, that's the only thing that matters to me."

"You think me being good at a Wizard's Chess is a good talent?" Ron asked, looking straight into Harper's hazel's eyes to see nothing but the truth.

"Yes!" Harper exclaimed, lowering his voice when some of the Gryffindors and Slytherins look their way, placing his hands on Ron's shoulders. "I'm good at doodling and that's the only thing I'm good at. I'm not my sister."

"Now who's the one that's comparing?" Ron said, smiling softly when Harper looked up at him with a cheeky smile.

"You should smile more, it suits you." Harper said, letting his hands hang down his side.

"So do you." Ron said, turning his head when the others suddenly let out a cheer and noticed that Harry had caught Neville's Remembrall that Malfoy had thrown.
