The quartet slips silently into a stand of trees. Beyond them, Hagrid's hut glimmers desolately in the dying sun.

The quartet stops, fighting their tears. A quartet of bleak shadows flies from the hut. One of the shadows-- Professor Dumbledore-- raises his hand and points, directing the attention of the others away from Buckbeak.

Process Dumbledore speaks briefly-- unintelligible from this distance, then-- the crows shriek excitedly and the Executioner separates from the others, disappears behind a low stand of trees.

All goes very still. The wind loses its voice. Sunlight kicks off the axe as it rises over the trees. The ax hangs seemingly forever, etched against the sky, then drops.

Ron and Harry stare toward the trees in numb disbelief. Harper and Hermione turned away, trembling. Harper let Ron pulled him into his body, wrapping his arms around Ron's shoulders. While Harry does the same for Hermione.

The sun sets, dropping behind the mountains in the distance. Harper turns, seeing a frenzied spray of crows stain the bloody sky, their primal shrieking rising like a curse.

Slowly, Harper's hands falls from Ron's shoulder, looking down at his bleeding finger.

Ron stares at his hand, at the blood running down his finger. "He bit me..." His eyes shift, and sees Scabbers streaking away.

"Ron! No!" Hermione exclaimed as Ron pelts after Scabbers. Harry, Harper and Hermione give chase.

Ron reaches the summit, disappears over the top. Hermione, Harper and Harry follow.

Harry, Harper and Hermione reach the top of the ridge, but then stop when Harper stops.

"Harry. You do realize what tree this is..." Hermione said.

Ron nabs Scabbers, cradling him in his bloody palm. "Now behave yourself."

"That's not good." Harry said. "Ron! Run!"

Ron spins, looking towards Harry. "Harry! Run!"

Harry's eyes shift. Bounding towards him in the gathering gloom is an enormous, pale-eyed, jet-black beautiful dog. Harry shields himself when the dog leaps clear over him.

Ron screams as the dog's teeth flash and close on Ron's foot, dragging him towards the trunk like a rag doll. Harper dashed forward and jumped, shocking Harry and Hermione when Harper morphed into a beautiful big brown wolf, going after Ron, grabbing Ron's hand with his mouth without using his teeth. They go back and forth until Harper looks into the dog's eyes and whines against Ron's arm, letting go of his hand.

Harper follows the dog into the Whomping Willow hole. Slowly walking forward, and following after the dog. Harper walked up the Shrieking Shack stairs, ignoring the shattered furniture and opening the door aside and walking towards Ron on the bed, who is clutching his bloody foot.

Harper bumped his head against Ron, licking the blood off of Ron's foot, whining again when Ron hissed in pain.

"It's alright, Harper. You didn't want to hurt me." Ron said, smiling softly at the wolf, watching Harper morphed into himself, smiling softly at Ron.

Harper turned his head to look at Sirius Black, who is watching them with careful eyes.

Minutes later, Harry and Hermione kick the door aside.

"Ron, Harper! You're okay--"

"The dog-- where's the--"

"It's a trap, Harry. He's the dog. He's an Animagus..." Ron said.

Harry looks down and follows the paw prints on the floor to a pair of filthy human feet. Harry looks up slowly at the man standing in the shadows. Filthy, matted hair hands to his shoulders. His skin like a corpse.
