The Goblet flickers eerily at the top of the hall. A group of underclassmen-- Harry, Ron and Harper among them-- stand by as their older classmates submit their names. Hermione clutches a copy of Triwizard Tragedies.
"People have gotten splinched in this Tournament! More than once!" Hermione said.
"Splinched?" Dean Thomas said.
"Dunno. But it doesn't sound good." Seamus said.
"Potter, Harper." Cedric said, nodding to Harry and Harper, dropping his name. Waving at Ron who raises his hand in greeting, smiling knowingly at Harper who playfully glared at him and dashed back into the rain.
"Eternal glory. Be brilliant, wouldn't it, three years from now, when we're old enough, to be chosen?" Ron said, looking up at the girl who approached Harper and gave the brunette a heart shaped box before running away to her friends.
Harper smiled at her and opened the box, seeing the chocolates inside the box. He held out the box towards Harry and Ron, and they took one before taking one himself, loving the way the taste feels on his tongue.
"Better you than me." Harry said, taking a bite of the chocolate and grins.
Ron nods knowingly, taking a bite of the chocolate and nod thoughtfully.
Just then, Fred and George come striding forth, looking very pleased indeed.
"Well, we've done it, lads." Fred said.
"Cooked it up just this morning." George said.
Fred and George hold up twin vials.
"It's not going to work..." Hermione said in a sing-song, flipping a page in her book.
"Yeah? And why's that, Granger?" George said.
"Because a genius like Dumbledore couldn't possibly be fooled by a dodge as pathetically dim-witted as an Ageing Potion." Hermione said.
"That's what makes it so brilliant. It's pathetically dim-witted." Fred said.
"Go on, then." Hermione said.
"Ready, Fred." George said.
"Ready, George." Fred said.
"Bottoms up!" Fred and George said as they tip a gooey green liquid onto their tongues and, with great drama, cross the golden line encircling the Goblet. As they drop their names, everyone waits. And waits. Fred and George grin, high five each other and are ejected high in the air, out of the circle and flat onto their backs, whereupon little white breads sprout on their chins.
Everyone laughs, including Fred and George. Then Seamus stops, then Dean, Harry, Ron and Harper. Finally, when no one is laughing, Hermione looks up and sees what silences them.
Viktor Krum drops his name, glancing at her, briefly, then lowers his head and slouches away. Hermione watches him go, briefly, catching the look on Harper's face then turns back to her book.

Hours later, now sitting at the top of the Hall. The House Tables crackle with anticipation as, overheard, the enchanted ceiling swirls with dark clouds. At the Tall table, the staff waits, Moody among them.
Dean Thomas dashes up to the Gryffindor table. "Did you hear! Not a single student from Beauxbatons submitted their name."
"Understandable, people have died before." Ron said, shrugging his shoulders, looking at Hermione who raised her eyebrows at him. "What?"
