A feeling of warmth crossed my body, as a pair of arms wrapped around me. I jumped, from the sudden touch. I rolled over to see Lucien. He was tired, and half asleep.
“What are you doing up so early?”
He spoke in a deeper voice, being tired. It had to have been early, since there was no light shining through the windows of the castle.
“I heard a noise. I’m sorry!”
“Oh, the clock? It goes off every hour after six.”
He rubbed his eyes, though what he said had not sunk in. I wasn’t focused on the words, yet instead the sound. His voice was beautiful and even him at that.
“Kami?”
He waved his hand in front of my face, that is when I came back to reality. I jumped but shook my head.
“Sorry! What did you say?”
He laughed, resting his head on my own. He didn’t answer my question, yet instead stayed silent. He wrapped his arms around me tighter. Had he fallen asleep again? I giggled, as I felt a quick lift of pressure. He rubbed his eyes, kissing the top of my head. I giggled.
I sat up, looking at my reflection in the mirror. It was like a new girl was standing in front of me. It was the same girl who had bruises and cuts. But she had brushed hair, new clothes, and her crown. What had I become? She was sniffling. Old and new. Her dreams had come true, but at what cost?
“What’s wrong dear?”
“Nothing!”
I quickly had wiped any tears forming in my eyes.
“I just miss my kingdom sometimes.”
Silence filled the room, before he grabbed my hand. I was confused, until he started walking out of the bedroom, and towards a door. It wasn’t the main entrance, yet instead a secret backway. I followed, unsure where we were going.
It was still dark outside, with very little sun over the fields. The ground was filled with different heights of grass. With many flowers, with different color variations. Along with what seemed to be crops. Carrots, potatoes, and other vegetables.
Off in the distance seemed to be this smaller house. With gates instead of doors. Lucien seemed to be running that direction, following a short dirt path.
“Lucien! Where are we going?”
Id laugh, for we both were not dressed correctly. I had a blanket tied around me, with a pajama-like slip on. As for he had a shirt and pants.
“It’s a surprise!”
He continued to run. It was hard to stay clean, as for neither of us had shoes on. Once we reached the barn, it had a giant animal. It took a moment, realizing it’s a horse.
My eyes felt heavy, as then, I am outside, and finally, I am on a horse with this man, and his army, riding away. I could not scream, squiggle, or fight back. My body felt heavy.
Memories came flooding, as I ignored them. I pushed it away, as I knew I was with someone safe. Lucien hopped on a horse, holding his hand out. I took his hand, getting on behind him.
“Hold on tight!”
And that I did. I wrapped my arms around him, as the horse started to gallop into the sunrise. And still. I had no clue where we were going. I only hoped it was good. I trusted him. I trusted him with my life, and everything else I had.
My blanket flowed in the wind, as for our hair did too.
