“Now, if you’re going to help me angel, you’re going to need to learn how to defend yourself.”
He said while looking at me with a stern face. I nodded while looking up at him.
“There’s a training room down in the lower levels of the castle. We can train there for now now, until its time.”
“Until it’s time? What do you mean?”
I looked at him concerned. He stood up, walking over to a small side drawer, rummaging through it.
“Word spreads fast, especially with assassins. I can promise you, there will be more to come, and it will only be so long.”
I gasped quietly, watching for what Lucien was digging for.
“More assassins? How long do you think we have?”
“Weeks. A few months at max.”
He dug out a small velvet-like bag. Shortly after, he walked over to me. I looked down at his hands, as he held out the bag to me. I looked at him confused, before taking it. A small dagger with a symbol was engraved into it. The handle had rope wrapped around it, tying it to the blade itself. The blade had the words “My Angel” carved into it.
“It’s for you. I made it personalized so I could be always with you.”
My eyes widened, before setting it down carefully, while hugging him tightly.
“I love it!”
“And I love you.”
I blushed, looking into his eyes. He placed his hand on my cheek. I leaned into his touch before repeating the special words back.
“And I love you too.”
We stared into each others eyes, our gaze never left. I wanted to savor this moment as much as I could. A few minutes had passed, before his stern body language had came back. His hand dropped as he looked at me.
“We need to start training you as soon as possible. What is your strongest weapon?”
I had thought for a moment, as a moment had turned to a few minutes.
“You’ve never touched weapons have you?”
I chuckled, shaking my head.
“I’ve never had the opportunity to.”
He nodded, before gesturing to follow him. We walked the castle halls as we made our way downstairs. It was a small room that had painting targets on the wall. A rack with bows and arrows, swords and even knives. I looked around, as my eyes widened.
I looked over at him, as he gave me a reassuring nod. I walked over to the small rack as I picked up a bow, aiming it at the target. I felt a body press behind me, as a pair of arms helped guide my own.
“Relax your body, you’re to stiff.”
I nodded as I felt his hot breath against my neck. I closed one eye as I aimed at the target, slowly letting go. The arrow had hit slightly off target, but still pierced it. I smiled, turning around to see Lucien, who had a proud look on his face.
After hours of training, I had finally done it. My arrows were getting more accurate than not. I gave myself a small celebration after everyone.
“Good job, you’re doing well my dear.”
I gave a proud smile as I nodded. He handed me a few blades with a reassuring nod.
“Try these now. I want to see how accurate your aim has gotten.”
I nodded, as I took the blades, aiming it at the text target. After a few throws I had gotten the hang of it, finally hitting part of the target. One after the other they slowly made it in the center.
As the hours passed, my aim had gotten better. I turned to give a soft smile to Lucien. He smiled back as he walked towards me.
“You’re getting better dear.”
I gave a small nod, as my smile grew bigger. Lucien had walked towards me, resting his hand on my face. His thumb caressing my cheek slowly.
“You know, you should smile more. It looks good on you.”
I gave a small giggle as I leaned into his touch. He thought for a moment, before taking my hand in his, giving it a gentle kiss.
“Come, I want to treat you.”
I nodded as I followed him, my hand still intertwined with his. We walked for a few minutes as he led me outside the gate, and to the front garden.
My eyes widened slightly with a smile, as I saw a small blanket on the ground, with a little bit of food set out. It was sunset, as the sky glowed on the soft grass.
“Wait, for me?”
He let out a soft but smooth chuckle as he nodded.
“I wanted to reward you for your hard work.”
I smiled happily as I sat down, taking a bite of a strawberry that was laid there. His eyes were filled with love, as a small smile was on his face. I dipped the strawberry in chocolate as I melted to the taste. He laughed as he moved his thumb to my bottom lip, wiping of some chocolate that had landed there. My gaze softened as I stared into his eyes. He smiled softly as his hand rested on my cheek. I leaned into his touch once again, watching him inch closer to me. I couldn’t help but smile as I watched him.
His lips were millimeters away from mine, before we felt the ground shake. I gasped as I looked around. Lucien took a moment, scouting his surroundings, before speaking up.
“They’re here”
