I started to feel the anxiety kicking in the minute we walked out of our apartment. Even though I always enjoyed having my own space and privacy, the last thing I wanted was to end up like an old lady stuck in a small town with no friends. I was afraid that I'd be rejected by Ella's friends despite the fact that she kept telling me how amazing they are.
Before I could notice, anxiety has now turned into fear. But I knew I had nothing to lose. That is the thing I enjoy the most about being away from home. No one knows who I am. No one knows who I was. No one knows who I want to be.
I have nothing to lose.
All the fog made the night look darker and colder. The only source of light came from the bright full moon and also from down the street, where I could see some sparkling coming from lighters and burning cigarettes. As we got closer, I started to realize the huge amount of people outside the club, most of them in little groups, and most of them had already started drinking.
As soon as Ella drags me into the club, I noticed that the amount of people standing outside couldn't even be compared to the number of people that were already inside. The first thing that got me was the heat and all the smoke that made the air inside the club almost unbreathable. The bright lights and the loud music started to hit me, and seeing everyone dancing finally made me get in the party mode.
---
Time passed by, and after being introduced each and every single one of El's friends, we decided to hit the dance floor. It only took 20 minutes until the alcohol started to flow in my veins and slowly take control of my body and mind. I started dancing like there was no tomorrow, moving my hips slowly and almost in a teasing way to the beat of the music that was playing.
Every single bottle of beer and red cups that had been offered to me were now empty, but all my energy was far from finished.
I step closer to the bar attendant and made eye contact with the 40 year old man who was serving all the drinks.
"Vodka with lemon juice, please."
While he was mixing my drink, I took a bit of time to look around and notice all types of people in the crowd, from the recently single girl dancing with every random guy that went on her way just to make her ex jealous, to all the couples that kept swallowing each other up like there was no one watching and that would only break up the kiss to breathe or to let out a little giggle, due to all the sexual tension.
However, the feeling that someone kept staring at me wouldn't fade away. I take one last look around to try to find out why I was feeling this way, when I finally noticed a really tall, blond and blue eyed boy looking at me like I was some sort of piece of art. I stared back at him, but he didn't look away. I decided to let go of this staring game when my drink was finally handed to me, making me smile at the blond boy and facing the floor blushing. But he wouldn't look away.
"Not him, Chloe."
"Why not?" I asked Ella, as she gently grabs my arm and pulls me back to where all her friends are.
"Because he's not the guy."
"Am I missing something?" I asked again, still very confused.
"He is the leader of the city's most problematic gang. Even cops are scared of him."
"What's his name?"
"Luke Hemmings."
I glance at him over Ella's shoulder. The "well known" Luke Hemmings made it seem that taking his eyes off of me wasn't happening anytime soon. He looked at me like he was craving me, in the deepest and darkest way possible, despite his bright blue eyes.
"Ohhh I'm so scared" I laugh at Ella, not really caring about who the guy actually was.
Ella rolls her eyes. "He is cute but believe me, you don't want to mess around with that guy."
"Alright mom, may I go back to the dance floor now?" We both laugh as we head back towards the DJ.
---
After another round of a whole lot of alcohol, my head started to feel heavy and my stomach was aching. I felt like it was about to explode, but my addiction started calling. I was craving my daily dose of nicotine, and it topped the ache caused by all the drinking.
"I'm going outside for a minute Ella. I need some fresh air and I also need a cigarette."
"Yes, let's go this way-" Ella started to lead the way, starting to get a little over protective about me since that guy she told me about started to look at me.
"I know where the door is. 5 minutes and I'll be right back"
I walked towards the crowd heading to the door that leaded outside. I opened it up, struggling a little, and I notice that I should have listened to Ella when she was telling me where I should go. I obviously had taken the wrong door and I was now alone at a dead end street.
I took a deep breath of the cold breeze and I took a cigarette out of my almost empty pack. I sit on one of the benches ahead of me, so I can rest for a moment from all the dancing. As soon as I lighted up my cigarette, I felt someone grabbing my waist and pushing me against the wall, leaving me no chance to get away.
"What is this beautiful little girl doing all by herself in the middle of the night?" I tried to scream my lungs out, but he covered up my mouth to make me stop. "Don't you know somebody could hurt you?"
The feeling of being trapped and vulnerable was something that I was definitely not used to. I felt my breath starting to get heavy. All the strength that this guy had was really hurting me. I look at him deep in the eyes almost in tears of frustration and fear and I notice that this guy, who looked like he was around 25, had the strength of a 30 year old man on steroids.
"What's your name, baby girl?" He asks, when I suddenly started to feel his hand running up the inside of my thigh. I felt disgusting. I tried my best to push him away, but he was way too strong for me. I screamed as loud as I possibly could, hoping that someone would hear me.
"Shhhhh keep quiet darling." I gave up. There was nothing I could do to run away. I felt a tear streaming down my face as he started to suck on my neck. "I promise it will be quick".
