*Madison's POV*
After my fight with Austin I went and picked up Zachary and got a hotel room. I didn't want anyone to know what was going on so I just pretended everything was okay. Zachary and I spent the rest of the night and all the next day playing games and reading. I tried calling Austin a few times, and he ignored me.
I was so lost without him. What had even happened? He ended it so easily. Like I was nothing.
Monday morning I took Zachary to school. I stood outside his classroom waiting for him to put his stuff away and then come and say goodbye when someone touched my arm. I turned and saw Mary.
She wore yoga pants and a white t-shirt. Her hair was in a bun and she had light makeup on. It was a big switch from the last time I saw her.
"Hey, honey." She said, smiling at me.
I smiled. "Hey, how are you?"
She shrugged. "I'm good. How are you?"
"I'm okay." I said, noticing the huge hickeys on her neck.
She licked her lips and smiled. "How's Austin?"
I faked a smile. "Good. He's really good."
She chuckled. "Good to hear."
"Auntie!" I heard Zach say. I looked over and he stood there smiling. "All my stuffs put away."
I smiled. "Okay." I kneeled down and he came over to me, hugging me. "Have a great day, sweetie. I'll be here to pick you up later."
"Okay." He said cheerily. "I love you."
"I love you too." I kissed his forehead and smiled.
He ran off into his classroom and I stood up, noticing Mary staring at my hand.
"How come you're not wearing your ring?" She asked, a small smile playing at her lips.
I looked at my hand. "Oh yeah. I took it off to shower last night and must've forgot to put it back on."
She laughed loudly and turned and walked away.
I frowned and shook my head. "Weird bitch." I said under my breath, walking away.
After I left the school I headed over to Alan's house. I needed someone to talk to and I knew I could trust him.
When I pulled up I saw two other cars in the driveway. I got out and went up to the door and knocked. A minute or so later the door opened and Austin stood there.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
I shrugged. "I wanted to talk to Alan."
Austin looked me up and down. "He's busy." He said, slamming the door in my face.
Anger surged through me and I opened the door, going inside and pushing Austin. "What the hell is your problem? We were fine a few days ago and then all the sudden your panties are in a bunch and you won't even speak to me? You go out with Mary and Ricky and now you act like you can't stand me."
All the sudden everything clicked. The perfume smell on his clothes, his weird mood swings towards me, the way Mary was acting today at the school. I felt tears coming and I backed away from him.
Alan came running towards me and hugged me. "Madison please don't cry. It's not what you think." He looked at Austin. "Tell her."
He looked at me and opened his mouth to say something but I interrupted him. "Did you sleep with her?"
He took a step towards me. "Madison, listen."
I pushed Alan away from me and went after Austin, fists flying. Alan grabbed me around the waist and swung me around. "Madison, stop!" He yelled.
Austin grabbed me by the arm and pulled me through the house to kitchen, throwing me down in one of the chairs. "You need to relax."
I wiped my tears away. "And you need to go to hell."
He sighed and kneeled down in front of me. "Madison. Listen to me."
I wouldn't look at him. I couldn't. "I don't want to hear anything you have to say."
He grabbed my face and made me look at him. "I didn't sleep with her." He searched my eyes. "I promise you. I didn't."
I looked at him. I always knew when he was lying, and he didn't seem to be. When he lied, he wouldn't look at me and he rub his lips together. Right now, he looks me straight in the eye. He looks completely serious.
He let go of my face and took my hands. "But as long as I'm being honest, I do have to tell you that I did go over there that night. My plan was to sleep with her."
I felt sick. I pulled my hands away from him and tried to blink tears away. When I tried to stand up and walk away he pulled me back and rested his arms on my legs, grabbing the back of the chair to stop me from moving.
"Mads, I don't know why I did it. I guess I just felt like you were shutting me out." He sighed and looked down, his eyes filling with tears. "I went over there, and it was just awkward. She kept saying these vulgar things and kept talking so badly about you." He looked at me. "I asked her for a drink and when she left the room, I took off." He shrugged. "I couldn't do it."
I felt like someone ripped my heart out. "I can't even look at you." I pushed him away. "Leave me alone." I stood up and started to walk away.
He grabbed me. "I know you're upset but I didn't sleep with her. I promise."
I turned around. "It doesn't matter, Austin. You went there with the intention of having sex with some whore you just met." I blinked away tears. "And then you broke up with me out of nowhere."
He ran his fingers through his hair. "I know. And I'm sorry. I was feeling guilty about what I did and I don't know... I guess I just tried to blame you to make myself feel better."
"Well, I hope you feel good about yourself." I said, turning and walking away. While I walked through the house I heard him swear and break something. I held back my sobs until I got to my car. Then I lost it.
