(Y/n) and Shinso ate their orders together and talked for a good long while. Well actually, (Y/n) did most of the talking with Shinso chiming every so often with a comment of his own. The conversations included cats (of course) videogames, and eventually even their plans for the future.

"So, do you have any plans for school? I'm actually here to try out for UA." (Y/n) commented.

Shinso stiffened up, so this person came all the way from America just to try out for UA, how funny is that?, "So, you came all the way here for Japan's top hero school? You must have a powerful quirk." Shinso said, envy building up inside him.

"Huh? Oh, nah. I'm quirkless actually." (Y/n) answered unfazed.

Growing up in Norrisville no one ever gave them grief for their lack of quirk. Back home it was just you either had it or not, you were treated based on your personality and actions rather than judged on your lack of quirk. But that wasn't the case for everywhere else in the world, though (Y/n) was completely oblivious to this.

"You're quirkless?! And you're trying out for UA?! Are you mental?!" Shinso said in utter disbelief.

(Y/n) frowned, "What's your deal all of a sudden? It's not even that big of a deal."

"Not a big deal?! You're quirkless and you say it's not a big deal?! How do you intend to even stand a chance against the thousands of kids trying out for UA?" Shinso was spiraling.

He really didn't mean to come off as rude or ableist, but a quirkless person trying out for UA was absolutely unheard of and he couldn't even picture it happening.

(Y/n), however, was incredibly offended by this boy's attitude. They thought he was nice and low and behold he's being the biggest jerk around just because of their lack of quirk.

"Wow. Really? Just because I don't have a quirk, you think I'm somehow lesser than you and everyone else? ...I didn't think you'd be such a jerk. See you around, Hitoshi." (Y/n) got up, if there's one thing they weren't was a stepping stool for anyone.

Shinso watched the teen get up with wide eyes. He truly didn't mean to offend them, he was just shocked. He now realized he was being no better than the kids that had caused him grief today.

Hearing the bell of the front door ring snapped Shinso out of his trance like state and he quickly made his way to stop the teen he'd just spent a good amount of time with after leaving behind some money for the food he'd eaten.

Shinso finally caught up to (Y/n) and grabbed a hold of their wrist. "Hey, wait! I-i'm sorry...I didn't mean to sound like such an asshole. I just never heard of anyone quirkless trying out for UA is all." Shinso looked down in shame.

Now it was (Y/n)'s turn to be shocked, "Wait, actually?" they said in genuine shock.

"Y-yeah." Shinso answered by letting go of (Y/n)'s wrist, confident they wouldn't walk away now.

"Why?" (Y/n) asked taking a step towards Shinso.

"UA-...UA didn't allow quirkless people try out until this year." Shinso gulped as he answered.

"..." (Y/n) was genuinely speechless, "Why not?"

Shinso stopped and thought, "Because they're quirkless?" saying it out loud left a bit of a bad taste in his mouth, but that was the way things were. Quirkless people just weren't meant to be heroes. Or that's what society seemed to say anyways.

"I....I didn't realize people were so..." (Y/n) stunned, couldn't properly finish their thoughts.

"How is it possible that you didn't know?" Shinso asked, it was obvious that both teens were aghast.
