She is beautiful.
To be honest, I didn't imagine that tonight her beauty would become even more evident.
Valentina is impeccable, wearing a loose, light-colored dress, highlighting the tone of her skin and eyes. Straightened hair, with curls at the ends, and little makeup, because I asked her not to put on too much. I love seeing her in an almost natural way.
My eyes don't leave her. We're outside, all spread out in the yard. I have a glass of wine in my hand, and I can't stop looking at her. She's on the other side of the pool, talking and laughing with her brother and my younger sister.
I feel like I'm addicted to her, that's all I need.
It's her, it's that smile, that hair, that careful way. I'm more and more an idiot in love with the way she moves, the way she speaks, the way she takes care of our family, everything. I could run away, but something traps me and keeps me here. There is no other place to go but to her side. I knew I would never be the same after taking a dose of her.
- "You have that same idiot look."
Only when someone speaks to me, I divert my attention, and with my cheeks slightly red, I drink some of the wine, before looking at my younger sister.
- "What look?
- "The same one you had when Valentina won your heart for the first time. I remember that, the time you started getting involved, you lived with that look, especially when her name was mentioned."
- "I think it's inevitable."
- "You think? I'm sure. Valentina always knew how to win you over, that's why she's my favorite sister-in-law."
- "You have another?"
- "No, but I have Roger, who is almost one. Anyway, jokes aside, I'm very happy that you guys got it right."
- "I am too and I'm very happy."
I look at her, at the same moment her gaze hovers over me too, and we both end up laughing. Valentina waves at me and raises her glass of juice of something healthy, as she is still following the diet prescribed by the doctor. Seeing her smile, after yesterday, is gratifying, but at the same time, momentary. I know things are going to get complicated in the next few days, but we have each other, and nothing else matters.
- "It looks like those cartoon characters, who get hearts in their eyes when they're in love. I missed picking on you for being my sister-in-law's dog."
- "Sarah, have you ever fallen in love? Like, truly?"
She chokes on the drink in her glass, and I am amused by her reaction, looking shocked, but I help her before my sister chokes.
- "What kind of question is that? Are you trying to find out about my love life so you can have another jealous attack?"
I smile at her, caressing her face. Sarah looks at me, suspicious, not understanding my real intentions behind that question, which are nothing more than curiosity. I need to know if she's ever felt what I'm feeling.
- "It's just a question, just answer it."
Sarah clears her throat, taking one last sip of her drink.
- "No, Luiza. I haven't fallen in love with anyone yet, and I don't even know if I want to. My life is too complicated to have emotional responsibility for another person."
- "I also thought like that a lot when I was younger. I may not remember what happened all these years, but today I'm sure that falling in love was the best thing that ever happened to me. Look at everything I achieved alongside that woman: a house, a solid career, a wonderful son.
