The next day dawned better, despite my insomnia during the night. I mentally went over the note I read for hours, desperately trying to remember something. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I couldn't have a measly memory. No remnant of the past, nothing at all. I'm starting to think that things should stay this way. Two knocks on the door catch my eye. I don't have to try to guess who it is, because it can only be a person. I take a deep breath and compose myself before answering it.
- "You can come in."
- "Good morning, my copy." My eyes almost popped out of their sockets when I heard that voice. I thought it was Valentina, but nothing could get any better than that. I jump out of bed quickly and walk towards my sister, pulling her into the room and wrapping her in a tight hug. Carol cackles in my ears and squeezes me in her arms.
- "Oh my god!" I finally lighten the hug, to the point I can see her, not much actually. We're identical twins, so she's with the same traits as mine. But her hair, once so huge, is now just above her shoulders.
- "Just like me."
- "Sure, but I'm much prettier."
She shakes her short hair and makes a cocky face. I roll my eyes and this time I let go of her completely, pulling away.
- "It's good to see you. The world seems to be upside down."
- "I heard about it. I'm horrified. We need to talk." I quickly agree.
Carol has a desolate expression. Even though I've made jokes, I know she's probably feeling my distress. Our connection has always been strong.
- "Take shower and then let's go down, your niece and nephew want to see you," she says.
- "I won't take long," I promise, and she nods. I'm about to turn around and go to the bathroom, but unable to contain myself, I walk back to Carol and hug her again,
- "I really missed you and your hug"
- "Me too, sister. I missed you so much."
The shower really wasn't long. I go downstairs and soon I can hear voices coming from the room. My heart races when I realize I'm going to meet my sister's children. I've always imagined what it would be like in the future, when we all had our lives, homes and children. It's a shame I don't remember going through all these stages of life. When I get there, I notice everyone sitting on the big sofa in the living room.
- "Auntie!" The girl with long, straight hair, who I believe to be my niece, Serena, jumps off the couch as soon as she notices my presence. She comes quickly towards me, and I'm surprised at how much she looks like me and Carol. Pretty much the same features, apart from the hair and the beautiful light brown eyes. Simply beautiful.
She grabs my waist tightly, and I return her hug tightly. It's so cozy.
- "You're huge". Serena cackles as she pulls away from me, and I bent down to kiss her cheek. It smells good. My senses are getting heightened, and I know I'm going to cry soon, but I try to control myself. I can't just burst into tears in front of the kids, I'm sure no one explained to them what happened.
- "She pulled my height". I look ahead and see Roger heading towards me. He has always been tall and looks taller, because he is very thin, but now in addition to having a defined body and big hair, he looks even bigger.
- "Hello Luiza." He embraces me, and I disappear into his thick arms. I wonder how can my sister stands a man of that size. That sounded a lot more wrong than I expected, by the way.
- "Always bragging." My sister comes up next to him and pushes him with her shoulder. I look down to see a seemingly shy little boy. I smile at him.
- "Say hi to your aunt Harry." He hesitates for a few seconds but approaches me and hugs my hip.
