I wrapped him in a hug, Tears came from both his and my eyes now. I didn't know what to say to him! I an confused and upset, but at the same time I love him back. I could never admit now that I love him, but I know our bond is stronger then the ties of this earth could ever be. I felt him squeeze my shoulders, but I didn't want to let him go. Not yet, just not yet...
He pulled away from me and took my hands in his,
"Give me a chance," He begged to me,
"If I get one to," I answered quietly,
Gently he leaned in and kissed my cheek, I returned the gesture with a moist kiss to his lips.
"I love you," He said,
"I know," I retorted.
After we loaded the horses back into the trailer and properly locked the back up it was just after 2:00pm. I took a towel from the back seat of the truck and put it around my shoulders, Jayce threw me a small glance and dried himself off also. We climbed into the truck and headed for home, I was deep in thought and staring out the window, since I wasn't driving. When I felt someones hand caress over mine, smoothly Jayce moved his hand across my palm and intertwined our fingers, pulling me closer to him. I took off my seat belt and jumped over lifting up the the arm rest to a bench seat. I wiggled into the middle spot next to him and rested my head on his shoulder, he shook my hand lose from his and placed his arm across the back of the seat so it swiftly brushed over the back of my neck. I pulled out my phone and sent a quick text to Sam, something I haven't done in a long time. I'd been so busy with Jayce I forgot about my best friend!
Me: *Hey girl,*
Sam: *Hi..*
Me: I'm sorry,*
Sam: * No need, I heard the whole story, I get it! No time for your best friend anymore..*
Me: * Sam it's not like that! Honest!!*
Sam: *Listen I gotta go.. give u a call later k?*
Me: *K*
"Something wrong?" Jayce piped up.
"Oh uh no, no just fine," I replied, But I knew he sensed the sadness in my voice.
"Hayden?" He asked me,
"No, we haven't talked since..." I said well gesturing to his scared chest.
"I see," He uttered,
"David or Sam?" He asked again,
"Sam," I told him with a heavy sigh,
"I see," He said for the second time,
The rest of the car ride was quiet, besides the horses low nickering...
We pulled into the long driveway and Jayce made a beeline to the house, So I opened the trailer and led the 2 horses out and into the paddock. I removed the saddle off Nike and slipped the halters off of them both, before releasing them into the fence. I gathered the tack in my arms and trudged slowly into the barn, I lifted the saddle onto a bale of hay and hung the halters and bits on the wall mounts. I disided I'd go walk over to the climbing tree in the mids of the thick brush. As I wandered along the path I sang my mothers song quietly to myself, the birds and squirrels fell silent to listen, like they had done when my mother sang.
"to you everything's funny, you've got nothing to regret, i'd give all I have honey.." I played the words in my head and as if my mother was with me the simple words that had never meant much to me became something much, much more. It was a song that was sung to me almost every night, and on the last few nights before she took off daddy had sang her something that brought tears to her eyes. I tried my hardest to think of those words that made her cry so often, and made her hold me tight. I didn't understand why she was crying back then but now I know why.
"Your more then a lover, I fall in love all over, every time I look at you," I heard from behind me, I turned to see daddy, siting tall and proud on Old reds back.
"I heard you singing that song," He mumbled, I watched him climb off Red and walk over to were I sat at the bottom of the climbing tree. He hugged me extremely tight and kissed my head in a fatherly manner, once he pulled back and loosened his grip on me, he sat down and I climbed into his lap. Something I hadn't done since I was a kid, he put his arms around me and the animals around us stopped for a moment.
"i don't know where i'd be, if I didn't have you here with me, Life with you makes perfect sense.. your my best friend."
