It was decided that their group of three would stay in Caiyi on the last day before the wedding to rest and gather information. No matter how excited Wei Wuxian was, he was not dumb enough to think the Lan elders wouldn't be upset. Their precious Sect leader had gotten married to someone his elders hadn't approved of, let alone met. His suspicions were proven right if town gossip was anything to go by. It seemed the Lan elders were furious at their Sect leader for marrying someone without their approval as Wei Wuxian had predicted. The issue had become so huge that even the people in Caiyi knew about it with the Lan clan's no-gossip rule. Apparently, the elders planned to stop the ceremony by any means necessary either forcing Wei Wuxian to get a divorce or by killing him. It was easy to see that the only thing that saved him from an assassination attempt was his prompt leave from Cloud Recesses.
Wen Rouhan plotted with Baoshan as they got Wei Wuxian ready on the wedding day. Wei Wuxian tried to offer his opinion but was shot down since it was for his wedding. Wen Rouhan was taking to Wei Wuxian being his son quite adamantly, and as such expected his child to be worry-free on his wedding day. The Wen Sect leader had spared no expense when dressing up his new son for his wedding. Wei Wuxian looked ethereal in the red wedding robes with golden clouds, phoenixes, and lotuses. Baoshan used light makeup to accent his silver eyes and naturally red lips. She adorned his hair with the phoenix crown she had used for her own wedding centuries before. As a male, he did not need to use a veil so it was omitted from Wei Wuxian's plans even while he pouted. Wen Rouhan wanted to make a statement to those old farts (Lan Elders) that they were lucky to have Wei Wuxian as their sect leader's husband for that his beauty must be on display.
When preparations were finished Wen Rouhan picked up Wei Wuxian by the waist and pulled him onto his sword. " I'll carry you. Don't you know it's bad luck for the bride to touch the ground?" Wei Wuxian grumbled the entire trip up to Cloud Recesses about being a husband, not a bride while Baoshan and Wen Rouhan laughed at him. At the gate, the elders had been waiting to get the drop on Wei Wuxian. They were struck speechless at the sight of the Chief Cultivator before bowing deeply to Wen Rouhan. It was Quingheng-Jun who had arrived there to defend and lead his son's husband to the ceremony who spoke. Bewildered he asked what everyone there wanted to know. " Chief cultivator to what do we owe the honor of such a sudden visit? May we know who are your companions?" Wei Wuxian pouted cutely in his red Wedding gown while looking at Quingheng-Jun with big puppy eyes. " I was only gone for a week and you have forgotten me, father-in-law?"
Quingheng-Jun's jaw dropped along with the elders around him as they finally realized who the gorgeous omega was. He looked completely different with makeup and finery compared to the old simple black and red robes he had worn when they had met before. He quickly apologized and complimented Wei Wuxian on his beauty. The elders were surprisingly silent as Wei Wuxian smiled brightly at Quinghen-Jun's praise. Then he haltingly looked back to an amused Wen Rouhan who still held Wei Wuxian by the waist. Which was very inappropriate for an omega that was about to get married to be held as such by a random alpha." Quingheng-Jun why wouldn't I come to my beloved son's wedding? I go through the trouble of hiding him away for years but he goes out to visit me and comes back with a husband."
All the Lan elders paled and even Quingheng-Jun looked at a bashful Wei Wuxian with wide eyes. "W-We thought you only had two sons." Wen Rouhan laughed at their shocked faces before answering. " You would hide your son away too if he was such a beautiful omega and the grandchild of Baoshan Sanren apart from the chief cultivator's son. I will admit I was hoping he would never marry, but here we are." A few elders fainted while others were stuck in place from the information. It was Baoshan Sanren that got everything moving again. She barely looked a day over thirty but her tone was sharp as steel. "I came for my grandson's wedding, and not to be talked about at the gate, so may we please go get my A-Ying's ceremony done before his makeup spoils?" She had a deep frown on her face with her sharp eyes somehow saying 'I know what you were planning'.
The elders composed themselves as fast as they could not meeting any of their eyes. They were led to the ancestral hall to begin the ceremony with Wen Rouhan still refusing to put Wei Wuxian down until they reached their destination. Quingheng-Jun was amused to see Wei Wuxian whine, pout, and struggle to be allowed to walk with dignity. All the while he was ignored by his father and grandmother who spoke about the lovely weather. Lan Wangji was already waiting at the front in his red wedding robes staring at the doors lost in thought. He looked so stunning in red and gold that Wei Wuxian's breath hitched for a second. Then he noticed Lan Wangji's lifeless eyes staring into space as if just wanting to get all this over with.
Wei Wuxian looked down ashamed of feeling so happy about this marriage while Lan Wangji was miserable. He was so focused on his inner doom spiral that he missed the moment his groom spotted him. Lan Wangji's eyes widened in shock for a second at the beauty that was Wei Wuxian. Only Baoshan and Quingheng-Jun seemed to notice by their secret smiles exchanged. Wei Wuxian was gently placed down in front of a frozen Lan Wangji by Wen Rouhan who turned to glare at him. " I will be watching you. You are a good man but remember you are married to him from today on. It will be your job to keep my son safe." Lan Wangji dazedly nodded to Wen Rouhan not believing that the random person that proposed to him was someone so important. What had become of his life that the Chief Cultivator was threatening him on his wedding day?
The Wedding itself was nothing extravagant except for one detail. Baoshan asked to adjust the ceremony to honor her family as well. Lan Wangji allowed it trying to accommodate Wei Wuxian's beliefs. Baoshan knew of Gusu's wedding practices and she also knew how her grandson felt for Hanguang-Jun so she changed the ceremony a little. Luckily only Wen Rouhan seemed old enough to know what she was doing. He wasn't inclined to intervene in her plans. After their three bows when the Lan ribbon would be tied on their wrists, she cut both their palms and forced them to clasp their injured hands together while Quingheng-Jun tied their wrists with the Lan ribbon.
Baoshan grabbed the clasped hands and used her energy to seal their wounds and bind their Souls together for eternity under her blessing. The tea ceremony was done in the dining hall right before everyone ate dinner. The situation was tense as Wei Wuxian served tea perfectly to Quingheng-Jun. Baoshan and Wen Rouhan gratefully accepted tea from Lan Wangji with a mischievous sparkle in their eye Afterwards, Lan Wangji led Wei Wuxian to their home the Jingshi leaving the silent eating hall behind.
Wei Wuxian was nervous as he knew this was a strange marriage. Especially since he had basically bullied Lan Wangji to marry him. He wondered if he would be expected to sleep with Lan Wangji tonight. He would like to.... eventually. If Lan Wangji wanted him to warm his bed; but not when the memory of his old lover was on his mind. Lan Wangji stood in the middle of the Jingshi watching a fidgeting Wei Wuxian carefully before pointing to a side door. " We had a room made for you. All your things should be in there call if you need anything." Lan Wangji went to his room and closed the door behind him. Wei Wuxian stood there for a second feeling hurt at the blatant rejection before shaking it off. Everything was worth it to make Lan Wangji happy.
The room was full of boxes Wen Rouhan had bought for him that needed to be put away. He just sighed getting undressed and ready for bed thinking of all the things he would have to do now. He was now Madam of a clan and with Wen Rouhan giving up his chair as chief cultivator and sect leader to his son Wen Xu in a few months he had to plan. He rolled on the bed suppressing a scream at the amount of work he had just volunteered for. Rouhan believes the attacks will be the same since he didn't plan anything except the attacks toward Wei Wuxian last time. The Wen Sect elders planned everything he was just there as a figurehead and for the thrill of the battle. With another sigh, Wei Wuxian climbed under the covers hoping Lan Wangji had sweet dreams before drifting off to sleep dreaming of his beloved in those fine red robes taking him to bed.
