Now that Wen Rouhan had announced his resignation the defences of Cloud Recesses became the priority. Everyone was busy getting ready for an imminent attack. The new barrier Wei Wuxian invented was set up and strengthened by the remaining clan elders. The kids were helping transfer supplies to their civilian hideouts. All disciples are taking extra night hunts as a learning experience along with more sparring. The night hunts were always close enough that disciples could return within the same day. Wei Wuxian was a favorite for sparring since he would switch between all the different sect styles of swordsmanship.
The highlight of the training was when their sect leader was able to get time to train. His spar with Wei Wuxian was inspiring. Lan Wangji was stronger and more graceful than his husband. Wei Wuxian was faster and more flexible than their sect leader. These differences made for amazing matchups constantly resulting in a draw. Those times every disciple could tell that in his adrenaline-infused frenzy, Lan Wangji wanted to devour Wei Wuxian. The tension was a bit uncomfortable but the sight of the match was worth the awkwardness. If only the clueless omega noticed. With everything being so hectic Quingheng-Jun and Lan Wangji were caught off guard when Wei Wuxian mentioned he was going on a week-long trip.
Both men stared at Wei Wuxian confused from behind their pile of paperwork. Wei Wuxian felt nervous under so much attention. He looked to the side while rubbing the tip of his nose with his index finger. This was something cute Lan Wangji had noticed Wei Wuxian did when he was thinking too hard or was feeling nervous about something. "Well, most of the things here are already being taken care of. The disciples are very competent and have everything handled. I'm only in their way right now. Plus, I still haven't stopped back in Yilling after my first visit. I want to check on my house and the protections around the city. I want to set up Yilling as a safe place for everyone. I am setting up an orphanage for any child who loses their parents in the war. I also have to open my home's lands to farmers in Yilling so they could grow their own food crops during the war. War is a long process and I want to make sure no one runs out of food." Lan Wangji didn't understand what Wei Wuxian meant by opening his homeland but nodded at Wei Wuxian, anyway. "Ok, we will leave tomorrow."
Wei Wuxian whooped excitedly doing a little victory dance right there in the office. His eyes opened wide when the rest of Lan Wanji's statement sank in. "What do you mean 'WE'?" Lan Wangji made himself sag and looked down as if upset. " Am I not allowed to go accompany my husband? Did you not want me to see your home since I am only a contractual husband? Or .... is it that my presence bothers you?" Quingheng-Jun stared at his son wide-eyed not knowing he could act like that. Wei Wuxian almost flung himself over the table in his need to cheer up Lan Wangji. Papers scattered everywhere making Quingheng-Jun sigh knowing neither man cared at the moment. Why was it that every time his son-in-law was around all papers ended up on the floor?
Wei Wuxian hugged his husband so hard he could barely breathe. He hardly minded while his father was trying to keep a straight face. He knows his son well enough to see the theatrics. " No no no I love being around you. Let's go together it will be like a date or something. Don't be sad Lan Zhan I'm sorry." Lan Wangji nodded patting Wei Wuxian's back to let him know his apology was accepted. He was barely keeping a straight face. There was no way Lan Wangji would let his husband out of his sight for a week. The man didn't eat or sleep unless Lan Wangji made him. In his mind, a Wei Wuxian alone in Yilling was a sleep-deprived starving mess. They stayed in each other's arms for a few more minutes. Quingheng-Jun cleared his throat to remind them he was still there. Wei Wuxian jumped away apologizing before leaving in a whirlwind of excitement.
As soon as Wei Wuxian rushed off to prepare both their bags for the trip Quingheng-Jun burst out laughing. Lan Wangji didn't spare him a glance while he picked up the papers from the floor. It took a while for Quingheng-Jun to get himself together under the judging eyes of his son. It was like he had not just been pretending to be upset just to get his way with his husband. "Wangji I would have never imagined you had this side to you. I'm glad your husband has brought some fun into your life. This is what I always wanted for you and your brother. It is close to what I had with your mother many years ago." Lan Wangji smiled at his father while starting to put his writing materials away.
