To Wei Wuxian's disappointment, the rest of the weeks before the conference were spent the same way. He was working hard to rebuild the Lan sect's reputation. This meant he barely saw his husband at all. The only times were during their silent breakfast (it made inner Wei Wuxian cry), but he was determined. The only inconvenience to his hard work occurred when he had a group of elders go with him on a harder night hunt. Those hypocrites left him to deal with a horde of over 100 fierce corpses by himself while they watched. They erected a barrier so the corpses and he couldn't escape.

The joke was on them. Wei Wuxian used his flute to stop the corpses from moving. Using music he laid them to rest while floating on his sword. After the corpses were settled the elders tried to attack him together. Luckily for his cover, he had brought a teleportation talisman so he teleported out. It wouldn't do to show his powers this early in the timeline. Unluckily he landed in his husband's office..... with torn clothes..... on Lan Wangji's lap. Papers scattered everywhere from the blast of energy. Lan Wangji just stared down at the obviously startled Wei Wuxian without comprehension.

Lan Sizhui who had been helping his sect leader with work cleared his throat pulling them out of their shocked states. Wei Wuxian quickly tried to scramble out of his lap making an even bigger mess. Lan Wangji grabbed his flailing arms to contain the damage. "Stop moving." When Wei Wuxian stopped flailing Lan Wangji grabbed his tiny waist and sat him by his side effortlessly. Wei Wuxian's brain had completely flatlined at being picked up as if he was completely weightless instead of a 6-foot-tall full-grown man.

Lan Wangji ensured that there were no injuries raking his golden eyes over every inch of his husband.  When he was satisfied with his analysis he asked Wei Wuxian how he ended up there. Still in a daze, Wei Wuxian explained what happened without conscious thought. The Madam's behavior was hilarious to Sizhui. Put Wei Wuxian in any dangerous situation he is in control but put his husband near him and he is a disaster. Lan Wangji was furious at the elders for trying to kill his husband and had Sizhui call for his father.

Quingheng-Jun came within a few minutes giving the dazed man still in his son's arms a concerned look. Lan Wangji explained what Wei Wuxian had told him and asked for those elders to be interrogated, whipped, and banished from the sect. While their marriage might be contractual Wei Wuxian was still his husband, and therefore his to protect. That made him feel proud for some reason. It was such a strange emotion that he quickly pushed it aside. He sent Wei Wuxian with Lan Sizhui to the infirmary, getting back to work on all the scattered papers. This event also opened the possibility of having those elders who were against Lan Wangji be removed immediately. Lan Wangji felt a little sick at the idea of profiting from his husband's assassination attempt. Still, the sooner the opposition was out the sooner his husband was safe......not that he cared or anything.  With so much happening, Wei Wuxian had forgotten to be measured by the Lan clan's tailor for new robes.

Lan Meilin thankfully knew someone who did stitch work for the clan as a hobby. Wei Wuxian decided to use one of the formal robes Wen Rouhan had bought for him. He just needed the robes adjusted for the conference with the Lan Clouds pattern. When Lan Wangji went to the tailor to pick up his robes he asked to pick up his husband's at the same time. He wanted to make sure Wei Wuxian had his dress robes as soon as possible. He did not do this because he wanted to make sure his husband wore his colors and insignia; (no, that was crazy talk.) The man apologetically told him his husband had never stopped by for a fitting.

Distressed over Wei Wuxian not having clothes for the conference he consulted his father. This would be Wei Wuxian's presentation to the cultivation world as Lan Wangji's husband. It should have been perfect. Quingheng-Jun explained the timing issue Wei Wuxian had and how he planned to solve it. A still worried Lan Wangji made his way to his husband's room. Even if it was just a contractual marriage it was his duty to provide everything his husband needed. An appropriate robe for his presentation was the least he could have provided.
