After everyone left the couple alone with their child Lan Wangji voiced what had been playing in his mind. "You are not just descended from a god, are you?" Wei Wuxian looked at Lan Wangji helplessly knowing he would never lie to his mate. " No, no I am not."  Lan Wangji seriously nodded happy that his mate was being honest with him.  The next question was something that had been weighing on his mind since his husband's rescue. "If I am right you are Yilling Lauzu, but .... why become my mate? I am just a random human you stopped from committing suicide. Your grandmother said you were in love with Hanguang-Jun. Am I just someone to occupy your time until you get his attention?" Wei Wuxian was appalled Lan Wangji thought that Wei Wuxian would use him like a toy. He thought for a few seconds about what to do to fix this miscommunication.

Figuring honesty was the best way to go in this situation he decided the heavenly rules be damned. He was already exiled. What were they gonna do, spank him? "No, no, no, beloved I would never play with anyone's feelings like that, let alone yours. My Lan Zhan is my most precious person. You are my Hanguang-Jun in mortal form." Wei Wuxian made sure the baby was sleeping on its little crib. He was trying to buy time to get his words together.

Then he walked back to Lan Wangji who was looking at him confused. With a small kiss to his forehead, he got back in bed snuggling into his husband to continue his words. "Every few hundred years gods undergo a test in the human realm. This is done to prove their core values remain the same. The gods turned on you in their greed. They did not like that you would not favor the wealthy. I still sponsored you against their wishes. As punishment, I was exiled from being a god until they feel I learned my lesson of opposing them; idiots. I would never regret sticking to my morals no matter how much I missed my garden." He sighed deeply nuzzling into the scent gland he had placed his mating mark on.

Wei Wuxian laughed quietly continuing with a pain-filled whisper. "I had planned to live my punishment here in the Burial Mounds without getting involved with the gods on trial. Then the worst possible thing happened to me. Having you die in my arms for their frivolities and greed. Forsaking your life, godhood, and morals over doing what was just. A man who commits suicide cannot be a god. I would have never seen you again. It was more than I could handle." Lan Wangji furrowed his brows.

"I didn't die Wei Ying." Wei Wuxian let out a humorless laugh that gave him chills with how broken it sounded. "No, you did Lan Zhan. The first time around I didn't make it to you until you had already slit your throat with Bichen. I lasted five years keeping Yilling safe from the war raging outside its borders with only Jiang Wannyin by my side. His sect had been decimated like all the others apart from the Jin, and he found himself seeking refuge here. Just when I wanted to give up, since what was the point of letting a world exist without you, my friend gave me hope. The Headshaker, the last god of justice in heaven, would turn back time. The only price for it was to get Baoshan and Wen Rouhan actively on my side. As the time rewound I was frantic to save you. Hence the rude way I forced myself into being your husband."

Wei Wuxian rained small desperate kisses along Lan Wangji's face with tears of pain cascading from his bright silver eyes. "I promise Lan Zhan I never expected you to mate with me in any way. The most I hoped for was a friendship where I could be allowed close enough to protect you. Then after your trial ended I would go back to the underworld quietly. Just being happy that you got your position back even with all those corrupted gods and humans against you. Back into the shadows where I belong as a death god." Lan Wangji kissed Wei Wuxian's head, his mind running a mile a minute.

"Who are the other gods down here Wei Ying?" Wei Wuxian shook his head regretfully. It was not his place to speak of anyone else. He had already broken a lot of rules telling his husband about himself and the time shift. Lan Wangji released his scent to help soothe his mate to sleep. The poor omega had an emotional day right after giving birth. While Wei Wuxian slept peacefully he came up with plans to stay at Wei Wuxian's side. It seemed that his omega was planning to hide away once he was a god again instead of staying by his side. If he was anything like his persona of Hanguang-Jun then he would want Wei Wuxian by his side always. Yes, Wei Wuxian belonged to him now and forever.
