(n.) the act of loving in return-Elora-
Someone's knocking at my door.
Which is really annoying because I was comfy. Laying in bed, book in hand, one earphone in to listen to my music, the other left open to hear the sounds of the rain outside.
They knock again and with a groan I roll out of my bed, onto my stomach and make my way towards the front door.
Frustrated and pissed off because I was at a really good part of my book.
"What?" I yank the door open, my frown turning into a small smile when I see Elijah.
He's soaking. Dripping from the rain. His hairs sticking to his forehead and he has rain water dripping off his nose and chin.
Still nonetheless pretty.
Which I shouldn't be thinking.
"Hi." Elijah smiles slightly. Bows his head like he's a little embarrassed.
My brows furrow and I look over his shoulder unable to spot his car in the empty driveway. "Did you walk here?"
Elijah nods sheepishly, avoids my eyes as he scratches at the back of his neck.
"Why?" It comes out sounding harsher than I intended. Elijah takes a small step back.
Shrugs, says, "I missed you."
And my heart falls out of my chest. Why's he making being angry at him so hard? "You missed me so you walked 6 miles in the rain?"
Elijah shrugs again like there's nothing much to it. Like it's that simple. He missed me so he walked here. "My dad toke my car."
I open my mouth the ask him why when he beats me to it. "I came for another reason as-well."
"Not just caused you missed me?"
"That's the main reason."
"And what's the other reason?"
Elijah shuffles on his feet, stares down at the ground. Blushes. Rubs at the back of his neck as he whisper, "Dance with me?"
"Dance with you?" My brows furrow, my confusion evident.
He glances up at me quickly, goes back to staring at his shoes just as fast. "You said you wanted to dance in the rain right? Well it's raining."
My heart splutters, ribs crack. How am I supposed to say no?
Elijah holds his hand out. Stares at his shoes as though he's unable to face me completely. A little scared I might reject him.
I place my hand in his.
Elijah looks up at me. Smiles a little to wide. Then he's pulling me out into the world, my door left wide open, and we're both standing in the rain. Thoroughly drenched. But we're both smiling.
And he's spinning me around. The rain splashing at my feet. Pulling me back towards him.
Somewhere between here and my door he must've put music on his phone because there's a soft sound in the background.
