"What the fuck is that?"
The loud grumbling came from outside the door. I jumped up, my head bouncing off Luke's shoulder as he continued to sleep next to me. I locked my eyes with a very angry Matt. Under the dim light coming from the corridor, his shadow was so long and large that it resembled a hellish demon. I gave him a frightening look before placing my finger to my lips in a silent sign.
"You bring a man to our house and fuck him in my absence?"
I froze. I quickly walked towards him. It was because I was afraid to disturb poor Luke's sleep on the couch or embarrass him enough. But a terrible anger burned inside me, by what right did Matt hold me responsible for my actions in this house? He should have been the last person to do this because he was the one who fucked up my life because of the sound of the dozens of cheerleaders he brought to our house to hit.
I put my hands on my hips and glanced over my shoulder at the still sleeping Luke before lifting my head to face Matt, "We were studying and fell asleep, okay?"
He crossed his arms over his chest to cast an awkward glance at the movie Back to the Future, which continued to play quietly on the television. "It doesn't sound like that to me. Somehow this looks more like two young queers having a first date."
"It is enough!" Not caring who I woke up, a high-pitched scream that could easily wake the neighbors escaped my lips, "I'm not gay or anything. And even if I was, it wouldn't be any of your business, Matt! Luke and I are nothing more than study buddies!"
He chuckled sarcastically as his eyes landed on Luke, who let out a small groan from behind my shoulder. "That's right, and your study buddy only has two seconds to get his ass off my couch."
"It's okay, Ben..." I looked at a sleepy Luke, barely able to stand up when I heard him groan softly, "I was leaving anyway." He grabbed his jacket from the couch and a shocked expression appeared on his face.
"No you don't!" It took me only a few milliseconds to jump towards him and get between Luke and the door, "If Matt's friends can easily come to our house, you're staying too." I crossed my arms and turned to give Matt a determined look, "Now you choose, it's not him or me, man. If he's going, I'm going too..."
I saw Matt's eyes widen for a brief moment until they were glued to his forehead. "So what? Where are you going to go? Are you risking your future for this fag? Are you in love with him?"
"Can you hear yourself?" It was my turn to shout. I hissed, pointing at the messy pile of books on the floor and the coffee table pushed aside, "You say guys can't work together because when you're with your own friends all you do is get so drunk you can't see your feet, fuck chicks and waste your unnecessary time!"
"Okay." Matt lifted his hands from his chest in surrender and tucked his tail between his legs, "Well, since you've been working, then go ahead. I won't bother you."
I glanced briefly at a shocked Luke, then grabbed his arm and pulled him onto the couch. I could hear Matt grumbling behind us, but I was determined to pretend he wasn't there. When I heard the refrigerator door open sharply, I put the books on my knees and focused on working as he had just said. There was an uncomfortable silence in the room, and Luke still looked like he hadn't managed to come back to his senses.
From where I sat, I sent a spiteful glance towards the open-plan kitchen, watching the tall man leaning against the refrigerator door and placing a milk bottle in his mouth. Matt grinned evilly and nodded slowly as he looked at the two of us, "Okay, so who's fucking who now? You both look like girls."
When I stood up angrily, he placed the milk bottle on the counter and sent Luke an almost disgusted look, "Don't get me wrong, man, I'm just trying to make conversation."
