Two Survivors [Lara Croft x Male Reader]

Another Fine Mess

Lara was hanging by her wrists from the ceiling, with corpses littering the room she was in, she had to get out and rescue Y/N. She started to swing her legs back and forth to build up momentum until she was able to plant her feet against the ceiling, using the leverage to escape the ropes on her wrists, she fell to the floor and hit it.

"OW!" Lara yelled out as she hit her head on the floor, the impact causing her to be dazed for a few moments. "Oh, god, what's happening here?"

Lara instantly fell silent when she heard a thump and slight clanking of metal followed by heavy footsteps. She crouched down and started crawling through a small tunnel filled with corpses and skeletons. She glanced back and saw the lower half of a giant figure, dragging a huge club behind it on the floor, it let out grunt as it paused before moving on.

Lara decided it was best to not hang around. She continued to move through the tunnel until she eventually ended up sliding down a small slope and landing somewhere seemingly outside of the cave where she had been held.

As Lara continued pressing onwards she felt the strong winds blowing against her face, however there was no way she was going back in that cave with whatever was in there, she pushed forward, until she found herself at a dead end, blocked by a wooden barricade. She looked around and found a dead skeleton holding a trench shotgun.

"Hope this thing still works." Lara remarked to herself before pointing the shotgun at the barricade and shooting it, destroying it.

"Over here! She's here somewhere... I heard something below." A Mercenary called out.

"The Guardians will kill her... Let's get the fuck out of here before they find us!" Another Mercenary ordered as Lara continued onwards.

"They're looking for me..." Lara thought to herself as she climbed into some tomb, as she caught her self from falling onto the floor with her arms, spiders crawled onto her arm but she was quick to brush them off of her. "l hate tombs!"

Lara looked around at the tomb and started to think about what she was seeing.

"A Sun Queen and her stormguard... Himiko! The first Sun Queen! This is Yamatai." Lara said with some amount of joy before opening the coffin to find the body of Himiko, immediately being blasted with the smell of the body. "And you're really here. And... really, really dead. This is incredible!"

Lara started looking at the tapestries around the room.

"This looks like some kind of fire ritual... A sacrificial ritual... Horrible. But why were the women burnt like that? A journey, a pilgrimage to... ls that this monastery? Pouring water? But why? And there you are. Queen. Wait... It's not pouring water, it's transferring power. This is an ascension ritual! It's how you chose your successor!"

Her conclusions were cut short by a voice from above.

"There!" A Mercenary shouted out.

"Oh no!" Lara muttered to herself.

 "Take her!" The Mercenary ordered as he and his friends started to swarm Lara who took cover behind the sarcophagus of Himiko, peaking out with her WW2 Submachine gun and gunning down the first four Mercenaries before ducking back into cover to reload.

"What the hell is going on down there?" A Mercenary called out, seemingly getting a response in the form of an inhuman roar.

"What? What the hell is that thing?" Lara muttered to herself in shock at what she was hearing. She used a rope arrow to pull a bell that was hanging from the ceiling, causing it to smash through a wall. As Lara made her way through the tomb she heard a voice.

"Hey! I found a way out down here!" One merc said.

"But the woman... we gotta find her."

"The Guardians can have her. I'm getting the hell out of here now!"

"Goddamn it... okay... okay wait! Help as open the gate." the Merc relented but there was a roar, followed by the sound of the gate closing.

"Shit... Shit... they're here!" The Mercenary who managed to get through the gate panicked as they ran away in fear.

"Hey, hey! What's going on? Come back! Don't leave us, you coward! Come back!" The trapped merc cried out before the sounds of his death echoed throughout the tomb.

Lara made her way outside and onto the mountainside, she climbed into the monastery, fighting against the strong winds and the collapsing platforms as she made her way there.

"Can't... get this thing... open." A Merc said as he was trying to open a hatch in the floor.

"Forget it. We need to break it with something." Another mercenary said before they both heard the sound of Lara climbing in through a gap in the wall.

"Look out... she's here!"

"It's no good, take her out!"

Lara made quick work of the mercenaries as she gunned them down with her pistol, looting their corpses for ammo.

"The way out of here was right below them. That bell should do it."  Lara remarked as she started climbing to the second floor, she destroyed the supporting beams of the monastery with it's bells.

"This place is falling apart!" A Merc cried out.

"Up there! She's on the second floor!" Another mercenary called out as Lara loaded her submachine gun and gunned down the approaching attackers. Once she had a moment to rest she thought to herself.

"Oh shit... I've got to get out of here! That bell should do it."

Lara used the windows and smaller bells to knock down the largest bell, causing it to fall through the hatch that was locked, however it also caused the monastery to begin shake, leading to Lara falling from the second floor and through the hatch, she landed and took a few seconds to get her breath back before she heard the same inhuman roaring she heard earlier.

"No... no! Ahhh!" A Mercenary cried out in terror before his screams were drowned out by the sound of the inhuman roaring.

"The guardians are here!"

"Run for your lives!" A Mercenary called out as they all ignored Lara and ran as fast as they could from whatever was chasing them. 

The monastery began to collapse, Lara in turn followed the exampled of the Mercenaries and started running as fast as she physically could, with the ground collapsing behind her and with the the edge of the floor behind her seemingly getting closer, Lara ran until the monastery corridor she was in fell on its side, resulting in the wall now becoming the floor, Lara got back up and continued to run until eventually she made a jump for it out of the corridor and started sliding down a small tunnel, using the trench shotgun to destroy barricades that were in her way until she landed in a cave, in a pool of water, with a rock in the middle of the cave being illuminated by the sunlight coming in through the roof of the cave. By incredible luck Lara had managed to escape the monastery.

"Hello? Hello?" Sam's voice came over the radio.

"Sam! Sam, it's Lara!"

"Oh god, Lara... It's good to hear your voice." Sam said with a sigh of relief.

"Yours too, Sam. Is the rest of the crew with you? Is Y/N With you?"

"No, I just managed to steal this radio off a guard." Sam answered.

"A guard?"

"I've been kidnapped." Sam clarified.

"What? Where are you?"

"I don't know... some old Japanese palace. They keep talking about a "fire ritual". Lara, I'm fucking terrified. Shit, someone's coming. I've got to hide this thing." Sam explained over the radio.

"Sam... Sam!" Lara called out but there was no reply from the radio, she put the radio back on her belt and started to think. "A fire ritual... Like the mural in Himiko's tomb..."

Lara started moving through the cave she was in, with the hopes of finding a way out and then finding and saving the Y/N and the others...
