*Whamm, Kabooom*

Silence...

The entire workshop has been shaken down by the experiment.

This happened...

The machine was online for the first few minutes, and it worked perfectly. It disconnected itself from the AI and server and started to work on its own without Jane interfering.
Suddenly, it started sucking up all the air the room had. It was fully sealed; not even air could enter the chamber. The suction continued until there was no air left inside; the room turned into a huge vacuum space. Jane tried everything she could to open up the door, or at least the vents, but nothing was possible by that time.
Sam was put into deep sleep since the machine was online. The vacuum state was sustained for ten minutes. With Sam as the only exception, everything in the room was deeply frozen. The temperature dropped down quickly and stayed that way until...

The machine started vibrating. It was sure that the temperature hadn't reached absolute zero yet. The chamber began to glow, the sucked air was slowly released back into the room, the temperature began to rise until it reached exactly twenty-one degrees Celcius, and then...

Silence...

Still silent. All one could have heard was Jane’s heart beating really fast while Sam’s was beating abnormally fast. It was impossible to detect a heart rate; his heart beat around three hundred and sixty-five times per second. And there was a high-pitched tone inside the ear—unbearable. It should have been impossible for a normal human to hear.
A shock wave was released from the machine; it crashed down on everything inside the room. Even itself and the strongest glass in the world standing between Jane and the room weren’t left unharmed. The glass was cracked with an opening on each corner, and the shockwave tossed Jane away, crashing her against the wall behind her.

After being unconscious for half an hour, she gets up and looks for Sam.

How did she...

The machine she created is to be one-use-only. It is built to be used once and then lose all its functionalities.

*Sam! Sam, are you there? Are you alright? Where are you? Just say something—just a sound, please!*

Jane is devastated. Though she has taken precautions and stayed further away from the machine behind the strongest glass she has had at home, she is partly affected.

But what happened to her though?

Jane is still looking for Sam. The room and the chamber are empty, but Jane discovers something...
A hole has been created through the machine to the ground beneath it.

*The internal part of the machine was blown into the ground. So the part of it in which Sam was sitting is now buried underground? What have I done? Did I just kill Sam? I’m very sorry; I didn’t mean to!
Dear God, please, if you exist, then show me a wonder! Show me it and let me find him, at least on the edge of death. I don't want him to go, please! Just this one time, show me there is a higher power out of my reach, my reasoning, my understanding, please!*

The room is quiet.

Maybe "God“ doesn’t give a damn about her—or maybe there really isn’t a „God“ or a „higher power“ out there, just as she thought. How does it feel to hope you were always right in a situation where you wish you were wrong? People deny faith but then hope for it when it suits them the most—ungrateful!
Is she crying? This is the first time she has ever cried for someone or anything in general! Jane, this time it is really going to hurt; even I have lost one of the most interesting people. You do deser...

*cough, cough, cough!* Someone is in there!

*Since when do you believe in a higher power?* An echoed, shaky voice sounds from beneath. *Is this your redemption, Jane?
It is Sam. He asks Jane why she thinks that he is dead. Jane can’t believe her ears. She hears a familiar voice and pushes aside the broken pieces of the machine to jump through the hole without thinking twice.

*Sam!* She cries out. Her voice echoes throughout the room. *Sam, thank you very much; you're not gone yet!* She finds Sam and hugs him as tight as she can.

**Wait, "gone yet"? Wooow, thanks!**

Sam has never seen her in this state before; he experiences a beautiful feeling, being wanted. For the first time in his life, he feels the warmth of being wanted and needed by someone.

One can tell that a very heavy weight has been lifted off Jane's shoulders. Sam enjoys the moment and hugs her tight.

*Jane, were you crying? So you can cry? I am really the bad boy; I even got you crying. Would you look at that!?*

Jane buries her face on his neck and takes a bite. *Shut up, j*rk! Never leave me like this again!*

They take a moment for themselves. They realize that the hole isn’t just a normal hole. The explosion has created a new room.

Or was it always there, just that no one ever knew?

The floor is like a sanctuary; the walls have drawings and ancient writings on them. They are telling one whole story about a traveler finding himself, and that from different perspectives. They name him the preserved rebel. Sam recognizes a part of the writing; it was written on Samuel’s bedroom wall. And the meaning: "The last two of them would have to unite as light and darkness in one. The hated twins will know about one and only one, for it is one who belongs... They are the last ones to take over."

He thinks to himself, *We need to have more in common than having the same face.*

The center of the room is clean and has more writing on the ground. It says, „You are the first to see this. Look for the missing chapters and end the story while being your whole self!“ It disappears after Sam reads it out loud.

*What does it mean?*
**Jane, I don't know. I'm also seeing this for the very first time!**

Jane promises to decrypt the writings. Sam promises to help find out what they mean.

They walk upstairs into Jane’s room.

*Wait a second, something happened to you! What are these tattoos all over your body? You don’t do tattoos, and how the hell are you able to walk normally after everything that happened?, Sam?!*

Chapter 27, end.
