Third person pov:
----------------------------Two ambulance arrives only a few moments later and without wasting time they swiftly drift away, one carrying a woman fighting for her life, who flung herself in front of her lover to protect him, and another taking the man responsible for her condition.
Even though they reach the destination in less than required time, it feels like eternity, where the man is taken in the different part of hospital, flanked by cops by his side, his face crumpled in pain and the way he keeps groaning and cursing it appears he is going to survive after all. While the woman is sent to a separate wing, reserved solely for her after a word from Dante King, where a team of best doctors are waiting for her.
They immediately start to rush her to the readied operation room. A lifeless looking Romero automatically moves to follow her inside but a doctor stops him, asking him to stay out. His body coils at the thought of letting her go out of his sight even for a moment, he takes a threatening step forward, preparing to strike when Dante comes between them before he could follow his thought.
"Let them do their work." Dante tells Romero firmly, sending a nod to the doctor to carry on with their work, who returns the nod, stepping back he let's the door slide close. The red bulb above the door goes on indicating the start of operation.
Romero remains stiff, his eyes terrifyingly blank.
"Listen to me, if you go in there you will only be in their way. You will distract them from their job, a job that is to take care of Akira, you don't want that, do you?"
Romero doesn't move, only his head hangs low, showing defeat, looking absolutely wrecked.
An unsaid whisper reaches Dante, I need her.
Dante's chest burns at Romero's crushed expression, a sight he has never witnessed before, he feels ill in his bone to see his proud, stubborn nephew brought down like this.
He looks so alone, so aloof right now, as if abandoned again, reminding him a lot of that eight year old kid he had met after his brother's death, who had given him an icy glare of distrust in greeting. Just like Dante didn't know what to do with him then, he still doesn't know what to do with him now.
How could he make things right?
He longs to pulls him in a tight hug but his nephew's rigid body language warns him off, so he trys to give him any comfort with his words, "You will be with her soon, I promise. She will be alright."
Romero doesn't respond to that either, he just lifts his eyes to stare blankly at the closed door behind which doctors are trying their best to save Akira's life.
In his long weary life, he has seen many deaths yet Dante has never prayed, preferring to depend on himself only, whatever the situation be but today he prays to whoever is listening up there to save her. She doesn't deserve it. His nephew doesn't deserve it. They both deserve better. They deserve to live happily after suffering so much in their short lives. They have been delivered so much pain to last a lifetime, now it should have been their chance to get their share of happy ever after, instead they are given another blow.
Help them God, save them both. He prays for both of them, knowing well if something were to happen to Akira, Romero will not survive it. He will be destroyed and nothing will ever be able to bring him back.
Please God.
He stares at Romero for sometime when the latter doesn't react, Dante shakes his head in pained frustration and walks toward Akira's father, who is now accompanied by his wife and his son. Worry and distress mirroring each of their faces.
