Chapter 9
The rest of the day went fast for Wilbur, he didn't see the ebony-haired girl until that afternoon, after school.
She was walking, facing the ground, away from school, kicking lose rocks on the pathway. Wilbur decided to join dear Violet, seems as though his house was in that direction, on her little walk, to try and get to know her more.
"Hey Vi", Wilbur shouted from the school gate. As she turned, he asked if he could join her and she answered by giving a little nod. The raven haired boy ran up to her as she waited for him with her head down and her hands in her pocket.
"Hey Wil", Violet said in her quiet voice, "How was your day?".
"It was nice... but it's school, what do you expect?", the boy replied with a goofy grin and sarcastic tone that made Violet giggle softly. But obviously not quiet enough, for Wilbur heard her nearly stumbled on the path. Her giggle was so graceful (if a laugh can be graceful) and light that caused Wilbur to be distracted. Once he gathered himself he started to ask more questions.
"Why did you move schools?", he asked innocently, not really knowing what he was getting into.
Violet suddenly stopped, starting to feel faint in the head but rigid in the rest of her body. Her powers were starting to flicker forward at the memory of why she enrolled to St Luke's in the first place.
Her old school was a nightmare, a hell house. It was full of two kinds of people, wolves and sheep. Those who were cool, arrogant, or otherwise knowns as the bullies, they were the wolves. Those who were quiet, scared, self conscious or otherwise known as uncool kids, were the sheep. Unfortunately for Violet, she was the biggest sheep of them all. Everyday she was bullied, bashed, teased, annoyed... the list goes on.
Until one day she finally blew!
She exploded with such rage that the whole cafeteria was blown back by her invisible forces. She was shocked at what she had done that she accidentally turned invisible...she did but NOT her clothes. Everyone was screaming, shouting, running, hiding. Until she was pulled out of the chaos and into the empty hallways by her younger brother, Dash.
After that, she was pulled out of the state school, stayed at home, and was forced into training her unique gifts. Once she was trained enough, her parents sent her to another school, a better school... St Luke's.
Violet was now trembling all over from the memories and started to breath heavily. Wilbur was so confused and worried at this point, he didn't know what to do!
"Vi...?", he questioned at first, carefully, not sure if she heard him. But as soon as she started trembling, he started to shout her name, trying to make her listen.
Little did Wilbur know, the mauve-eyed girl was fighting a battle against her will and her powers.
'Don't lose it Vi, don't lose it!', she cried to herself, trying to get hold of herself. But the memory was too strong so instead of using her powers to convey her stress, she collapsed.
Well she thought she did, until she felt string arms catch her fragile form and hold her steady. It was only then that she heard Wilbur's desperate cries to her, and only then did she respond.
"I'm fine Wilbur... I'm sorry for freaking you out".
"Thats alright, but are you REALLY ok?", the tall boy asked with concern written all over his face and in his voice.
"Its just that...", Violet wasn't sure if she should tell him of her past, but she decided to trust the most famous inventor of her kind's son and tell him.
All the way they walked to Violet's house, telling each other things not even their closest friends know (not that Violet had many friends before starting at St Luke's).
"Well, I guess this is where I must leave you Mr Robinson", Violet teased cheekily with a toothy grin.
"Oh really...?", Wilbur replied with a cocky tone and expression, "It seems to me that I am leaving you".
"What do you mean?"
"My house is the manor across the road..."
"Oh...its very big"
"Yeah... Big family"
The two looked at each other and then smiles began to spread across their faces knowing what both were thinking.
"Looks like we are neighbours!", Wilbur chimed with a look of pure joy
'Now I get to see Vi everyday!', he thought happily.
"Oh great", Violet decided to be a bit cheeky, "Now I will never be rid of you".
"Oh poor you"
Both teenagers cracked up laughing and then Wilbur decided to cross the road.
Just as Violet was entering her house, Wilbur shouted across the street.
"Meet you tomorrow morning Vi!"
"Ok Robinson!", she shouted back.
Both smiled and entered their homes. They both felt happy, enthralled in the other person's life. Who knew that these type of moments would happen more often, bringing them closer and closer together?
