Chapter 22
The trip to school wasn't long, fortunately for Wilbur and Violet, and the group arrived to hundreds of students waiting for the school gates to open.

"Here you go kids, have a great time", the limo driver opened the door with a bright smile. The children all gave thank you's to the man, hopped out and went to join the rest of the students.

"I didn't get to say it before but...", Wilbur hesitated before finishing to the silver-cladded girl beside him, "You look absolutely stunning"
Violet Parr immediately turned beet red at his words, stunned to know that he actually said those words to her!

"W-W-Why... Thank you Wil", the poor girl was embarrassed to say the  least, "You look quite handsome yourself"
"It was my mum, she made sure we all looked our best for girls, now I see why!"
Once again, Violet blushed a deep red. She remembered when Franny Robinson came shopping with them for the dresses. The adult female couldn't stop fretting about what they were going to wear!

Before the mauve-eyed girl could reply, the gates started opening and students flooded in.
"Well, milday, shall we go?", Wilbur held out his arm to the girl as he asked in a posh accent, smiling like a goof.
"Why, of course sir, we shall", Violet copied his accent as she accepted his arm. Wilbur guided both of them through the gates, around the buildings of the school, and out into the back courtyard of St Luke's. Gasps were heard as the two teenagers came around the corner. And they understood why.

The whole courtyard was transformed from the dirty area littered with food scraps and covered in graffiti. Instead, there were poles that surrounded the whole area, little fairy lights connecting them all together like a chain. The lunch tables were now covered in white table clothes, christmas candles in the centre of them all. The far end of the courtyard was covered by a stage that held the dj setup. Just in front of the stage, a small area had been cleared so that there would be room for people to dance. The canteen was transformed into a fancy kitchen that held delicious smelling food that was about to come out upon the tables.

It was all beautiful.

Violet stood in awe of the place. Nothing seemed more perfect then being with Wilbur and her friends in a beautiful place on a beautiful night. "The social committee really out did themselves, didn't they?", Violet asked nobody in particular, "It's all so beautiful!"
"Yeah, but nobody could out do your beauty", Wilbur said the words before even thinking them. The teenagers both blushed as red as Danielle's dress. It was true though, Violet was most likely the most beautiful girl at the ball, all the guys were gawking at the silver-cladded beauty.

Wilbur was angered by this and took Violet by the hand towards a table that seated their friends already.
'Wow! What is his deal?', thought a very confused and stunned Violet Parr. One second they were blushing at Wilbur's comment, smiling shyly while admiring the area. Then the next second Wilbur has suddenly dragged poor Violet to their table with an irritated expression plastered upon his face!

"So what do you think of the courtyard, pretty cool right?", Amber was practically jumping up and down with joy at everyone's reaction. Wilbur and Violet had just heard the question just as they sat down.
"It is absolutely wonderful Amber", Monique replied, still wondering at it all, "You guys did amazing!"
"That's my girl!", Peter laughed and slung an arm around a proud Amber, smiling like there was no tomorrow.

"Everyone, may I have your attention please?"
Everybody turned towards the stage, seeing that their principal stood at the microphone ready to talk.
"Welcome everyone to the first annual St Luke's Christmas Ball!"
The audience broke into applause, a few girls screaming and a few guys whistling through the noise.

"Yes, yes. I know you all are excited. But settle for bit longer. To start of the evening, dinner will be served soon and then more fun will come."
As soon as he said it, people came rushing out of the transformed canteen towards various tables, serving plenty of christmas based food.

People talked energetically about all the fancy set up while food was laid in front of them each. Roasts and stuffings and turkeys and vegetables and more mouth-watering food was brought out towards the astonished students.

Violet was in awe once more, hardly believing that THIS food was coming out of THEIR school canteen, it was just UNBELIEVABLE! The students dug in without hesitation, relishing in the well prepared dinner.

~Time Skip~

Dinner finished and the dj stepped on stage to start the music. Girls grabbed hold of their dates and dragged them all to the floor to jam out. Wilbur's group just stayed where they were, talking about whatever came to their heads first.
Wilbur couldn't but look sideways at his astounding best friend every once in a while. The lights flickered off her shining gown that it almost caused him to turn away.

The youngest Robinson couldn't resist the urge to hold Violet's delicate hand and so slowly reached out and grabbed it into his gentle hand, entwining his fingers with hers.  Violet slightly jumped at the sudden contact, but looked under the table to see her best friend holding her hand from beside her. The ebony haired girl looked up to see deep brown eyes looking into her stunned mauve ones.

Smiles flickered upon both of their faces as they both remembered the first time they met, their eyes the first thing they saw of each other. Both of the teenagers turned back to the current conversation at the table, but both kept their hands entwined, never letting go.

"Alright ladies and gents", the dj said into the microphone while fidgeting with his set, "Here is something slow for you all, now get on that dance floor"
Nobody moved for a second until Wilbur stood up and offered his to Violet and asked her, "Would you like to dance Vi?"
Violet was too stunned to answer with words, so she nodded, stood, and off they went.

As they took their positions on the dance floor, the music started up and played a personal favourite of Violet's.
"I love this song!", exclaimed Violet as she set herself up against Wilbur.
"But it is just the instrumental!", Wilbur was slightly confused, how could anyone like song with no lyrics to it?
"Yeah, but that's what makes it amazing! Sometimes just hearing the music is better than the actual words"

Wilbur just shrugged it off and placed his hand on Violet's waist and the other in her hand up beside them. They swayed to the song, slowly but surely moving to the edge of the dance floor. Soon they were behind a building where they could still hear the music so they could still dance.

Wilbur had his atop of Violet's, taking in her scent and hoping that this moment would never end. Violet's head rested upon Wilbur's chest, hearing his continuous beating heart, hoping the exact same thing. Out of nowhere, someone starts singing. Wilbur wonders who it is until he realises it is Violet! She sings with her eyes closed, head against his chest, singing softly the last chorus of Christina Perri's 'A thousand years'

"I have died everyday, waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed that I would find you
And time has brought your heart to me, I have loved gor thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more..."

In that moment, Wilbur agreed with Violet. Sometimes the best music is without lyrics, because then people can sing along to them.
'People like Violet can sing along to them', Wilbur thought dreamily, closing his eyes in contentment. He never thought he would hear a sweet as sound as Violet's voice, but he did, and it confirmed his hidden emotions.

As the last note of the song played, Wilbur stopped them both by grabbing Violet by the shoulders, causing her to open her eyes in surprise.
"Something wrong?", asked Violet tentatively. Wilbur shook his head with a small smile on his handsome face.
"No, not at all Vi", Wilbur was now  not scared. Or afraid or nervous anymore of confessing. Because he truly did know his emotions, no matter what the mauve-eyed girl thought.

"I just wanted to tell you...", Wilbur slowly leaned into Violet's face, causing her to hitch her breath. He was just millimetres away from her face now, lips just about to touch.
"That I am absolutely in love with you"
Violet stood shocked. Every fibre in her body was frozen for a second. That second felt like infinity. Those were the words she had dreamed of him saying since forever, and he finally said them.
It took her a second to recover and finally unveil her feelings too.
"I love you too"

And then they kissed.
