"Hah... I'm tired from walking. Can we stop for a sec?" The woman with horns halted her footsteps, fanning her sweaty face caused by the sun. Of course, those horns were concealed by a cap she wore and clothes that matched with today's standards. Opting for a short-sleeved button-down shirt in a light fabric like cotton, tucked in the shirt with comfortable chino pants and comfy sneakers. It was sufficient enough to blend into society with how different she is.
"You mustn't be lazy at this time of the morning, Nakiri-sama. It is not too far from here. Your legs are as nimble as a feather's lightful touch against a pond. Even whilst sauntering, you should be able to make it there effortlessly."
Two materializations of ghosts appeared on her left and right shoulder, invisible to the human eye, Karma and Shiranui were her pet familiars, constantly monitoring her safety and ensuring her health was prioritized at all times. She covered her loud yawn with one of her hands, coming to a full stop against the gray pavement beside the streets as a car passed by with a louder honk.
"The sounds of cars still grate my ears..." Shiranu cursed at one.
"With that being said, if you're still feeling lazy. Commuting is never shameful. One has to survive when they are driven into a corner." Karma advocated.
Shiranui clawed Karma's fur with its paws.
"We are supposed to encourage her to keep moving forward by herself. What do you think you're doing, suggesting she needs a pair of human hands to assist her?"
"All I'm saying is, if she doesn't feel like it, she can ask for help. Nothing wrong with admitting you need extra hands."
"Quiet you! There's a reason why you're called Karma! Nakiri-sama has been around for a very long time. You'd think she can finish this short walk to someone's house by herself, not baby her into doing things half-heartedly! Nakiri-sama, in case you forgot, Mr. Calypso told you to be there as early as possible. Just you moving about would be much faster than a vehicle confined to the laws of a single path!"
"Ehhh..."
"Look, don't you think she's cute? I wanna ask her out but I feel like I'll get rejected..." Ayame's ear's perked up at the sound of that. She hid her toothy fangs, suppressing a grin. Suddenly, her energy's back.
"Whatever man! Shoot your shot!"
"Nah, I'm a loser. I can't be that confident..."
Nakiri Ayame could hear the whispers of two boys from a couple of blocks away, her ears prickly and sensitive to the sounds of human opinion. Being an oni for more than a thousand years, Ayame had already gotten used to how humans behaved. A collective experience that already spanned from the middle ages to the present. They knew how they bartered, spread lies, told truths of their own, and journeying throughout all of those made her interested. Everything her parents told her about humans seems to change depending on the years that pass by. Interested in what humanity would evolve into the more this went on, she reached out to the world before her, not looking back. Oh if only they knew she was older than the the ages of their families combined.
Hololive was a strange place but it was an effective business. All things couldn't last forever and with how Ayame was, having a fondness towards humans, decided to become an idol and see where that went. Fortunately, that future of being an idol, garnering fans all over the world, was going in a massively positive direction.
Another car honked as it sped through a waterlogged side of the road, the wheels churned up a cascade of water, spraying the poor victim's clothes that was near it. An unsuspecting pedestrian would find themselves instantly soaked as the liquid deluge from the road would drench them from head to toe, the sound of the splashing wheels echoing through the air and galloping off to their destination, unscathed.
