"Mom... Why are they dressed like that?"
"Just look away, Richard... You're too young."
"W-w-what can I get for you girls today?" The waiter of WcDonald's nervously brought out his little notepad and a pen on the other hand. It was one thing to serve special kinds of customers, it was a whole other ballgame to provide for nearly flawless-looking women, gazing straight at your soul. Even gods from the past wouldn't blame the man for stuttering and hopelessly losing focus at the sight before him.
"It's okay to order a lot." Calli asked Kiara what to buy for food.
"I'm sure the girls are famished after being through a lot. We'll take everything on the menu!"
"KUSOTORI! MY MONEY AIN'T AIR YOU KNOW!?"
"But you just said-"
Soon, the food had arrived (having to be carried by five workers with trays).
Shiori and Nerissa had been restless in their seat, the plethora of fast food on their table on the verge of disintegration by extreme consumption. With Fuwawa and Mococo hungrily devouring them like it was child's play, their interactions spurred the onlookers to have strange expressions targeted on them.
"Nuggets! Nuggets! Delicious nuggets!"
"We'll leave some for you guys, don't worry!"
"I'll be the one who's paying so eat to your heart's content..." Mori Calliope has her arms crossed against her seat with Kiara tapping on her lap, aiming to wait for the best timing for the conversation to start.
Shiori eyed the burger in her hands. Nerissa did the same, the mouthwatering culinary creation before them proved to be a visual delight that embodied further comfort and indulgence. Nestled between two halves of a gently toasted sesame seed bun, a cooked beef patty in generous size, with toppings creating an orchestra of colors and textures. No wonder the dogs munched it all up, a medley of glistening bursts of freshness was displayed before them.
"I..." Nerissa began to speak. "It's been a long time since we ate anything, haven't we, Shiori?"
"Yeah..." Shiori replied, almost unbelieving she could see the real world now instead of reading it by the book. All those hours toiling away, digesting books of knowledge and spending a good chunk of life behind bars caused the woman to feel a faint numbness in her heart. While Shiori wasn't sure of her own identity, human or not, she couldn't deny that a basic necessity had been ripped from her by fate. That much was sure.
"I'm... I'm gonna eat it now." Shiori encouraged herself with Nerissa following suit. Would the food of today be different from back then? Had the books she'd read prove useful all this time, learning of food and the world?
She took a bite. Shiori delicately cradled the burger in her hands, her fingers curved around the edges of the bun, feeling the warmth it provided.
Her cheeks became rosy as her nostrils caught a stronger whiff of its irresistible aroma at a gradual pace. "T-this... The meat is perfectly charred... the sauce is tantalizing... It's..." She sniffed, her mouth quivering as she took several more bites to process it. She had nothing more to say.
"The book was right." Shiori said to herself.
"What is this? Do you know what this is, Nerissa?" Bijou didn't know what the lettuce was called.
"It is a kind of vegetable from the timeline I was in. I believe it's part of the Asteraceae family."
"Well, whatever it is, I kind of like it!"
