High School:

"Mika! How could you cheat on me?" Yuji asked desperatedly, heartbrokened as he saw the girl kiss another male.

"Sorry, Yuji-san," Mika said coldly, "I never loved you, you're just weird. No one would ever love you! You would be forgotten!"

"Shut it, Mika-san!" Y/N sneered as she strode over and hit the girl right in the stomach with the bottom of her shoe, "no one will love you if you are that cruel."

"HOW-HOW DARE YOU, L/N!" Mika screamed as she lunged a punch at Y/N.

But Y/N, being the martial arts champion she was, stopped Mika's arm.

"Mika-san, I tell you. One day, Yuji Nishida will not be just some weird boy anymore. He will be a champion, a volleyball champion on the national team. It's too sad you didn't believe him now," Y/N said softly as she gentley grabbed Yuji's arm and the two walked away.

"Arigato Gozaimasu, Y/N-san, I don't know if I could hold it any longer if you didn't come," Yuji smiled weakly.

"Sometimes, you're too nice, Yuji-san. You need to protect yourself as well," Y/N said.

"Hai, Y/N-san! Do you want to come and grab dinner with me? It's my treat," Yuji asked, smiling brightly as he flashed his puppy-eyes at her.

"How can I say no to that face?" Y/N chuckled as the two interlocked hands and went to the nearby sushi restaurant.

From that day on, Yuji had the most confidence one could ever have. He used to be the shyest member on the team. Now, he's the loudest captain. He used to be the lonely boy that everyone ignored. Now he is the most popular.

"Great work today, guys! Remember, we have a match tomorrow, have a good meal and rest!" Yuji reminded as his other teammates nodded before waving him goodbye,

"Look at you, Yuji-san! All confident and shining like a bright star!" Y/N smiled as she entered the gym to give Yuji a hug.

"I could have never done it without you, Y/N-san," Yuji smiled back at the girl before he picked her up and carried her bridal-style.

"Wah, what are you doing, Yuji-san?" Y/N asked, blushing lightly.

"I like you, Y/N," Yuji whispered in Y/N's ear.

Y/N's mouth was wide open when she was still carried by Yuji, "Wa-what?"

"I like you, Y/N. Ever since that day when you gave me light to my life," Yuji admitted.

"I like you too, Yuji," Y/N replied back as Yuji's face brightened, "to be honest, I liked you back in elementary school when you that shy and cute boy in class."

"Can---can I kiss you?" Yuji asked hesitantly.

Y/N didn't even have to reply as she cupped Yuji's face and their lips touched.

Y/N was right.

Yuji Nishida became the ace of the Japan National Team, the Ryujin Nippon. And Y/N was there by his side, every step of the way.

She could practicaly hear Mika-chan crying, regretting how she let Yuji go oh so long ago.

But she couldn't care less.

As she cheered when the team won a medal for the VNL 2023. Knowing that it was worth it standing by Yuji Nishida from day 1.
