3 months later

My 17th birthday was amazing, although I didn't get a car. Dad was not budging on his stance and said in due time I'd get one. Yeah, that meant me waiting until Christmas. I freaked out seeing the car in the driveway with a huge bow. Excited was an understatement. I even tried to persuade my grandparents, but they said that whatever my dad said, was what they were going to go with. Yay me.

Having Drake here for the holidays was amazing and I spent pretty much every day of winter break with him. Plus he was here for majority of January. He's supposed to be coming back for Valentine's Day which is in a couple of weeks, but I'd love nothing more than to go surprise him.

Now that's going to be the challenge in getting dad to agree to that. Don't get me wrong, he likes Drake, but he's still my dad and overprotective as ever. Still, I'm going to shoot my shot and see if I get lucky in asking. Maybe I'll catch him in a good mood.

So glad the school week is over and hoping to get out of the house as soon as possible.I woke up earlier than usual, knowing my dad would be working out and I could talk to him. After getting ready for the day, I went down to the basement and there he was, as I suspected, working out.

Sometimes he would have music blasting. That was more so when he did weights. Right now he was running and had his headphones on. Still, he must've sensed my presence as he turned in my direction.

He smiled and held up his finger signaling he was almost done. I gave him a thumbs up and went to the mat, stretching until he was finished. Once he got off the treadmill, he grabbed his towel and water bottle, coming in my direction.

"What's up baby girl?"

"Nothing much."

He titled his head before taking a sip of his water.

"Nothing much? It's early and you don't come down here often so it must be something. Plus, I can tell something is on your mind. Your eyes give you away."

"You should've studied law like grandpa instead of going to the NBA."

"You're my kid, picking up on changes comes with the territory."

"So, in other words, you can always can see right through me, huh?"

"Mmm hmm. Stop stalling. What's going on?"

"Well, I wanted to ask you..."

He started laughing.

"Dad..." I whined.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. What do you want to ask me, Harls?"

"I don't know how to ask you really."

He took a seat on the mat with me.

"Just ask me. There's nothing we can't talk about. You know that."

Oh yes there is. Well, okay maybe not, but some topics are awkward.

"Um, I want to go out. Can I drive my car?"

He looked at me confused. I wasn't on punishment or anything, so driving my car would get the green light.

"Sure. You know the rules. Car needs to be back home no later than 8pm. If you're trying to go out after that, your curfew is still 11pm, but I don't want you out with your car that late. I could take you and pick you up, or Kenz can. Where are you trying to go and with with who?"

"About that. I want to go hang out with Drake."

"Oh, he's back in town? That boy must really like you to come home as frequently as he does."
