Trevor
It's been a month since everything happened with Harlow. Crazy how I ended up getting in trouble in the midst of all that. Mom, dad, and pops have been on my ass since they found out I was vaping again. It wasn't anything serious, but mom wasn't for it, dad either, and pops? Well, pops benched me. He took away what I loved most.
I was pissed at first, but after talking to my dad, he calmed me down. He explained the position pops was in; how he couldn't show me favoritism. He also told me that pops was more than my Coach, he was a father figure. He wouldn't do anything to hurt me, but teach me, guide me. Dad made sense, sure, he was right. Still, I was mad.
What did I do while I was grounded? I watched a lot of film. I worked on my game. Of course I spent time with Harlow. She's one of my best friend, but above all else, my big sister. Having her and pops in our lives, we all needed each other. We're not perfect, but we love hard, fight for our family, snd everything always falls into place.
It's a Saturday and surprisingly there's no plans on the calendar. I'm trying to get out of here and go hang with my friends. I have two sets. Usually I'm with the basketball team or Emma, Jace, and Harls. Then when I'm pissed off, I'm with my other friends. They do reckless shit which my mom hates. That's why she doesn't want me around them. Oh well, she can't choose my friends. She needs to relax.
As I just finished getting dressed, I heard my phone ringing. I was hoping it was Emma although she sleeps until about noon on the weekends. It was just after 10am. Fuck. It's my dad.
I've been dodging his calls for a couple of days now. He sent me a few photos from me being down by the beach with my friends and a fight being broken up. As if I need more people watching my every move. While I wanted to ignore his call, I knew he'd catch a flight. Yeah, I didn't need that right now.
Checking my phone I saw he texted me.
FaceTime call. Now.
I hugged but called him back. He answered on the second ring.
Dodging me now, son?
Good morning to you too, dad.
Explain to me why I'm getting calls about you acting a fool. Getting into fights? Still around people who smoke? Tell me, how is any of that going to help you in the long run when scouts are starting to look at you, Trevor.
I groaned. I really didn't want to hear this right now.
I don't care if you want to hear it. It's what you need to hear. You're going down a slippery slope with this double life of yours, son.
Double life? What? I have two sets of friend. It's not a big deal.
A set of those friends I know for sure that your mom and Liam wouldn't approve of you hanging out with.
Here you go. Look, mom or pops can't choose my friends.
Are you really missing the bigger picture here, son?
I haven't touched a vape. Someone was fighting my friend and I wasn't going to stand back and watch.
What if you got hurt? What then? These kids are affiliated with gangs, Trevor.
What? No.
I had them all checked. Yeah, they are. You have too much going on to be involved in that shit. You want to play D1 in college. You want to go to the NBA. Son, the smallest of infractions can set you back. I know you know this. I know Liam instills this in the team.
