Harlow
I just turned 18 and when I tell you there is no one in this family that can keep me under control, it's no one. I'm grown now.
The only thing standing in the way is me still being in high school. I'm upset about that because I should've graduated last year, but after my mom died, my schooling situation was halted a bit. I missed a lot when she was sick and while I'm happy for the memories, it's kept me in school for an extra year.
Then there's my counselors on my back about college applications and early decisions. To be honest, college is the furthest thing from my mind at the moment. I'm thinking a gap year. That's something I haven't talked to my dad about yet, but what can he really do? Make me go?
I'm sitting in class, half asleep, not caring one bit. Thankfully we don't have school tomorrow thanks to some professional development day. Luna is coming home this weekend and Drake will be here tomorrow. Luna has been getting real cozy with one of Drake's friends, Clay. She's been focused on school, not really dating. Ever since she's met Clay, she's been coming home like every other weekend and coming with me to visit Drake. We stay with my Aunt Addison and Uncle Cameron. We usually leave Friday evening when I get out of school and come back Sunday morning.
There's a party on his campus and Luna and I are planning on going. I never got to see that Lola girl face to face, but I never forget, and she's definitely going to know who I am before this weekend is over. My phone buzzed and I smiled seeing it was a text from Luna.
Hey sissy. Flying back in tonight. Let's have a girl's night!
I smiled and just as I was texting her back, I felt someone hovering over me. I sucked my teeth and rolled my eyes knowing it was my annoying ass teacher, Ms. Blake.
"Ms. Law, phone away."
"Mm hmm."
I went back to texting Luna and this lady went to snatch my phone. What the fuck.
"Back up!"
"Harlow, I've told you multiple times about being on your phone and that you should be paying attention in class."
"I'm not bothering anyone."
"You're becoming a distraction."
"No, you're being a distraction coming over here and bothering me."
I saw the look of disappointment all over her face. Ms. Blake was aggy, but she wasn't a bad teacher. Yes, I may have been giving her a hard time lately, but I don't care at the moment.
"Your behavior as of late has been extremely disrespectful and I will be having a conversation with your father about it."
"You do that."
I got up, grabbing my stuff and leaving. I went to the common area for a little while before I got a text from my dad telling me to come to his office. Here we go. Heading to the gym, I ran into Jace.
"What's up? Why you look like that?"
"Typical bullshit. Got into it with Ms. Blake. She said she was going to call my dad, I told her go ahead and left the class."
He winced.
"Aren't you trying to go see Drake this weekend. Coach isn't going for that if you're fucking up in class like that."
"I'm 18. My dad can't tell me to do shit."
He started cracking up.
"Have you met your dad? Go say that shit to his face. Let me know how that works out for you."
