The past few months with the kids have been far from a cakewalk. Each have had their own hurdles and there's been plenty of tension. As a parent you want what's best for your child even when they can't see it and fiercely disagree.
Sometimes you have to make tough decisions that will make them mad at you. Other times there's compromise. With every situation there's a different battle. One things for sure, I don't quit on my kids. Whatever the challenge, we'll get through it, together.
Harlow wasn't happy having to leave her "new" friends behind, but the hospital incident did make it easier. She's been on the mend, but now we have Trevor to deal with. I know he has a hard choice to make, but this is the first of many tough decision he'll encounter.
After dropping Trevor off to dinner with Drew, Cody, and Colt, McKenzie and I had a quiet dinner of our own by the beach. On our way back, we picked up T. As I parked in the garage, I saw Drake's car pulling up in front of the house. Harlow home by curfew, good.
I'll give Drake that, he never kept Harlow out late. Anytime she's missed curfew it wasn't with him. He said goodnight to the three of us before kissing Harlow's cheek. She gave him a hug before we headed inside. Both Trevor and Harlow said they were going to shower and get ready for bed. Kenz and I did the same.
I was laying in bed with Kenz. She was on my chest. I was rubbing circles around the center of her back which always put her to sleep. While therapy had been helping me, I still had trouble sleeping. It was just after midnight as I got up to go workout, hoping to tire myself out for bed.
I worked out for about an hour and showered before heading up to bed. To my surprise I saw Trevor standing by the alarm system I knew I had set when the four of us entered this evening. He was shining his phones flashlight on it and mumbling to himself. Having a cousin like Wyatt in cybersecurity, all of our homes had triple security. My two teenagers couldn't bypass it to sneak out if they tried.
I hit the light in the kitchen which made him jump and gasp.
"What are you doing?"
He groaned before turning around.
"Uh, hey pops. Didn't know you were up."
I took a step towards him and on instinct, he took a step back.
"What are you doing, Trevor?"
He started rubbing the back of his neck.
"I just came to get some water."
"Yet you're tampering with my security system. Sit down, son."
"I'm just..."
"You're going to sit your ass down before you really piss me off."
He sighed but took a seat at the island.
"Where you trying to sneak out to?"
"Huh?"
"Trevor, don't play games with me right now. Im trying to hear your side, but I'm not stupid. Don't challenge my intelligence. You're fully dressed. You're trying to turn off the alarm. Where were you going?"
He huffed and sucked his teeth.
"Everybody really needs to get off my back. Maybe I want to process shit on my own."
"Watch your mouth. I understand you want to handle things on your own. I also know everyone is concerned and that can be bit suffocating so to speak."
"Exactly."
"Despite all that, when has it ever been okay forgo the rules that your mother and I have and sneak out of this house?"
"I... okay, never."
