A LIGHT BREEZE BLEW THROUGH her hair, blowing sand up that stuck to her damp face. Her chest felt heavy, tight and achy. As if on instinct, she shot up, sputtered and coughing up the water that filled her lungs.

A hot pain shot through her chest, burning her throat in the process. Everywhere ached, her limbs stiff as she held herself up. She had no energy left, her eyes felt heavy. Overall, she felt drained.

With a sigh, she collapsed back into the sand, her eyes slowly blinking as she stared at the bright sky ahead of her. White clouds covered the blue, sun rays beating on her face.

The sound of crunching sand was heard, but she could not move her head to look at who it was. But she did not need to, as the person appeared in her line of vision, blocking out the sun.

Her eyes were drifting close, but despite not seeing who it was, she knew that voice anywhere. And it was the last thing she heard before he succumbed to her exhaustion.
