'What's your name?'
'My name is Alison Elizabeth Moore...' Ali said for the hundredth time within half an hour. She was now sat outside the house where she could see the next door neighbours watching them through the window.
'Is there anyone else in the house other than you and your father?'
'Annie...'
'And do you know where she is?'
'She got locked in the hole a long time ago...'
'Where is the hole?'
'It is under the basement. Daddy locks us downstairs when we do not obey him. Daddy got really angry at Annie because of me a month ago, and I haven't see her since then.' She said in pain.
The policemen did not say anything but just left her alone sitting there. He motioned for a few of his colleagues before disappearing into the house again. It was not after long before the police ushered Annie out of the house. Poor Annie winced at the sight of sunlight as she had been in complete darkness for a month. She was much thinner than she was a month ago.
'ANNIE!' Alison screamed as she jumped to her feet and ran for her sister.
'Stay back!'
'But she's my sister!'
'I know, but she is very sick.'
'ANNIE!' Alison screamed as she broke out of the grip of the officer before running to Annie.
'Ali it's all going to be fine... I will find you and I will take care of you...' She whispered before holding Ali's hand for possibly the one last time.
'Annie I love you...' She cried.
'I love you too Ali.'
(Back In America)
'Katy?'
'Yup?'
'Your phone...'
'Thanks mom. Hello?'
Katy dropped her phone which caught the attention of everyone at the breakfast table. 'Mommy are you okay?' Jessie exclaimed as all eyes were laid on her mother.
'Uh yeah... mom can I talk to you? Like now?'
'Of course Katy, come to the kitchen.'
'Mommy...'
'Babe mommy is fine...I'll be back really soon and then mommy will take you somewhere okay? Angela can you please get her suitcase packed up? We need to go like now.'
'Katy what's wrong?'
'It's Alison...'
'What's wrong? Is she okay?'
'No... apparently her father... you know abused her all these years...' Katy said as a tear rolled down her cheeks.
'Oh no...'
'Mom it's my fault, I made her suffer so much more than she needed to... this would not have happened if I had arranged to at least meet her.'
'How is she?'
'She's in the hospital, the social worker just called, she will be going into the system if I don't take her in.'
'Are you going to?'
'Of course I am going to be bringing her back here, but I really don't know how Jessie will take it and I don't want to upset her. I mean it has always been the two of us. I don't know how she will feel if there is suddenly someone else her age living with us.'
'Jessie will be fine. You know her, she does not have a mean nerve in her, besides your little girl has proven over and over again that she is very capable of sharing and being kind to others.'
'I know... but I'm hers, I'm her mommy... it's different from giving away a little doll, or her pocket money to the homeless, or giving away her candies to some less fortunate children...'
'Katy just bring Alison back first... if Jessie really cannot adjust to the changes, Alison can stay with me so you can take Jess through this slowly.'
'Can I do that?'
'Of course you can Katy. The last thing we need is to try and mend a broken child while Jessie slowly gets torn up inside, now do you want me to come with you?'
'Oh my god yes please mom.'
'Okay go book the earliest flight there is to London. I'll get you two packed up.'
'Mommy? What's wrong?' Jessie asked Katy as she hugged her mother.
'Jess remember mommy told you that not everyone is as lucky as we are?' Katy said slowly, processing how to put this to her six year old as Jessie nodded. 'Well there is one little girl who lives in London, who deserves so much more than she has. She has been hurt really badly, and I thought that it is a good idea for us to bring her into our family so that she can have a chance to feel love.' Katy continued as Jessie listened carefully.
'Mommy does that mean I have to cut you in half and share you with someone else?'
'Baby of course you will not have to do so, you will just have a little sister, who is a day younger than you are. You two can be best friends, but only if you want to though...' Katy said, worried that her little girl will say no.
'Mommy will we still be together?'
'Of course we will be together! You always come first in my heart...'
'Okay... if it makes you happy mommy, then we can get another little girl.'
'Thank you so much pancake! Go and pack up your things upstairs with grandma, mommy is going to get the plane tickets then we can go to London.'
'Okay!'
'Wait babes! Come!' Katy said as she opened her arms, welcoming her little girl in for a nice warm hug. 'Thank you so much for always being the best Jessie, do you know how much I love you?'
'Infinity?' Jessie chuckled.
'More than that dumpling... I love you infinity times infinity.'
