Chapter 15 (Don't Give Up)

Alison's heart was pounding when this woman she did not know walked into the room. 'Is she going to hurt me?' She thought. Behind the new person was the woman that took her away from Annie, the horrible person... To her surprise, the woman that she just met was actually nice. Alison liked her a little as she thought that her voice was delicate and soft, just like her mummy's. It was strange though, she thought. She couldn't believe that she talked to a stranger. 'If daddy found out he will be very angry...' A voice said in her head. That was true, if daddy knew that she like another person, he will hurt her, just like he hurt Annie.

When the woman who called herself Katy left, she wanted to ask her if she would stay, or maybe hug her like her mummy would. She screamed inside her head, begging Katy to stay but nothing came out... and with that, she left without even looking back. 'She will never come back...' Alison thought as she got sad again. It was not long before the social worker came back into the room. 'Oh no...' she thought. She had always had the feeling that she did not like her very much, but she just couldn't figure out why.

'Listen Alison, I want you to have a good home for a fresh start. Katy, the woman that was just in here is a very nice mother. She has her own child and she is considering taking you home with her. If you want to get out of here and get a good home, I suggest you be polite to her tomorrow, that is only if she returns after your bratty behaviour. Do you understand me?'

'She only wants me gone...' She thought, but nodded without having any eye contact. She really hoped that Katy will come back so that she can see her...

'Alison can you explain yourself?' Her father hollered into her face while grasping bunches of her hair.

'Please! Daddy I'm sorry!' She screamed in agony.

'How dare you betray me like this after I've taken care of you for so long?'

'I'm sorry daddy I won't do it again! Please let me go!'

'Oh so you can go live with that bitch?'

'No daddy I promise you I'll never like her or think about her again!'

'I don't trust you and I am going to kill you brat!' Alison screamed in terror as she watched her dad grab a knife from a table and stabbed it into Alison's stomach.

'AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!' Alison screamed as she shot up while hugging herself.

'Oh my god what's happening to her?' Katy said, leaning against the glass panel.

'I think she just had a nightmare, that's all.'

'Well can I go in and see her or is it a bad time?'

'You can try her I guess, but if she freaks out then we will have to give her some space.'

'Of course.' Katy said before she entered Alison's room. 'Hello Alison, do you remember me?'

Alison sat still and buried her head between her knees. She knew that she had to stay away from Katy or else she will get hurt. 'Alison are you alright or do you want some space?' Still no response from her... 'What happened?' Katy thought. 'She was better yesterday when I saw her.'

'Well if you're not feeling up to it it's fine Alison... I guess that I'll um.... leave you alone for now... goodbye.' Katy whispered as tears started to swell up in her eyes. Why is Alison suddenly rejecting her? 'Katy is everything alright? Why are you back so soon?' Mary asked as Katy threw herself onto the couch and buried her face in her hands.

'I don't know what happened, she was fine with me yesterday... I mean she didn't hate me yesterday...' Katy sobbed.

'I don't think that she hates you Katy...'

'No I can see it in her eyes, she wanted me gone...'

'But that does not give you the permission to just walk out like this. What will she think? Oh there goes another person that hates me and ditches me after pretending to care!' Mary raised her voice.

'I do care mom! I do care! Do you have any idea how bad I feel for not meeting her before when I had the chance? I messed up and all I want to do now is fix her.' Katy said desperately. 'It doesn't help that you ran away does it?'
Mary snapped back.

'Mom please! Stop making me feel even worse than I feel!' Katy screamed as she stood up. The door bell rung and soon after and Angela unlocked the door and walked through the door with Jessie behind her with an ice cream in her hand.

'Mommy you're back already!' Jessie exclaimed as she ran to her mother for a hug. 'Mommy why are you crying? Do you want my ice cream?' She offered, handing Katy her vanilla ice cream. 'Mommy's fine Jess. Do you want to go and have Chinese for lunch? After that we can go to the museum or we can go shopping. What will you like to do?'

'Does the museum have dino bones?'

'It does honey... it is called the natural history museum.'

'Can we have dim sum and then go to see the dino bones?'

'That sounds like a date then Jess, just you and me. We'll leave in an hour.' Katy said as Mary frowned. Angela immediately sensed the tension and popped the question. 'Jessie do you want to have a bubble bath with the bath bomb that we got yesterday from Lush? We have time for that before you are going out with mommy.'

'Yay can I use the big pink one?' Jessie said and followed Angela into the bathroom. 'Of course you can angel! I'll get the water ready and while I'm doing that can you go get your clothes?'

'Katy what are you doing? You have to get back to the hospital right now!' Mary whispered, cautious so that Jessie cannot hear them arguing. 'I'm not going back there today! That kid doesn't want me there so I won't be. Jess wants me here, so I'll be here for her.' Katy hissed back. 'Katy you need to go back right now! You cannot break a promise! You promised that poor little girl that you'll take care of her! You can't just not be there for her because it's hard!'

'Mom I have never broken a promise to Jessie, and I am not planning on breaking one today. I am not going back there today.' Katy said as she walked away from her mother, avoiding any further fights. 'Well are you going to go back to the hospital tomorrow?' Mary said frantically, concerned about what Alison is going through. Katy shrugged without looking back at her mother. All she wanted to do was to spend time with Jessie, it seemed impossible to build a bond with Alison like the one she has with Jessie. With Alison it feels like she is the only one trying and it is hard. 'Can I actually do this?' She thought to herself as she went into the bathroom to chat with her perfect little angel.
