A push of a button kills the engine leaving a still and stiff air between Maleek and I.

Pushing forward, he bends and grabs his school bag, digging through it to make sure he has everything he needs for this session.

"What you are guys making today?" Without gifting me a glance he shrugs, moving to the glove compartment to grab the umbrella.

My attention split between his movements and the persons entering the police station.

His voice permeates the car, causing me to slouch and relax in my seat.

"She wants to add on more sessions per Corcho's request. It's some baking session to get me talking or become expressive." He pauses and scratches his head, eyes trained on the doors of the station. "She said that she's trying some different approaches" Nodding, I run my hands over my thighs. A bit worried.

Swallowing, I brace myself for the harsh answer that may come from my question. "Can I come in with you, just to see how everything is and to meet her?"

The door to the car opens and he places a foot outside, swinging the bag up from the floor and onto his back.

Playing with my fingers, I await his response, giving him some time to think about it.

I know that our relationship is beyond struggling and I'm trying to make amends.

Trying to fix and place the pieces back together so that I don't lose either of them.

He stands facing me, eyes squinted due to the sun, he pulls at the straps of his bag, pulling it further up his back.

"If you want to you can join. She's asked about you guys coming but I never mentioned it because I know you don't like these scenes."

I grab my things quickly, as he walks away. Pulling at my dress, I exit the car and close the doors. In a rush to catch up to his pace.

Upon entry into the building, a suffocating heat engulfs us, even more boiling and treacherous than the pelting heat outside.

Maleek greets the lady at the front desk with a smile before signing his name.
