"Yuh think mi can carry har with me into the water?" Holding up a hand that shields Zoey's face away from the sun, I pose my question to Zola.
She shakes her head, brushing away the sand from the lounge chairs that decorate the shore.
"I googled it this morning and an article said that we should wait until she's at least 2 months" I nod my head at her answer, lifting some of the sand in my hand and coating the soles of Zoey's feet.
At the feeling, she scrunches up her face pulling her brows together with her eyes clamped closed.
I chuckle at the way her lips tremble before she lets go of a cry. Zola giggles grabbing her phone to record a video. "He's so evil" She lulls Zoey smoothing out her brows.
With Zoey in my arms, I take a seat on the lounge chairs. She curls up on my chest and for the first time, her light snores blend in with the soft rustle of the sea breeze and the distant voice of the MC hosting the mid-day activities.
God muss a come cause Zoey nuh lock dem eye deh with such much a gwaan.
I lift her in the air, swivelling on the seat for my back to rest against the back of the chair. "Yowe weh duh yuh Mommy?" Her lips curl up and I lower her, resting her crying body against my bare chest. She sticks her thumb into her mouth showing her content. Chuckling, I look past her over to her mother.
Zola's back is turned towards me, the beach towel covering the lower half of her body. "Zo?"
She turns around to face me eyes red showing her lack of sleep. Her hands fold underneath her head, her lids barely able to still open as she holds my stare.
"Yuh still waah guh Clarendon?" At my question her eyes light up and she sits up immediately.
She spent the entire of yesterday trying to convince me to bring her and Zoey to Clarendon to go see her grandmother.
I refused to 'cause a did big holiday and mi nah put we life at risk knowing that on big holiday like those most people drunk and deh pon on bagga foolishness.
