"That mek sense!" Mommy's shouting increases the intensity of my headache.

I groan leaning my head against the wall praying she would cease the conflict she's brewing.

The people them done mek up them mind and mek it clear they won't bend the rules

And no amount of her shouting and cussing will change that fact.

"Miss Chang," Miss Grant tries and Mommy shuts it down immediately.

"Zola" She turns and points to me her voice soft. I look in their direction. "Zola is an A student, she doesn't get in trouble here, represents the school well everywhere she goes never gotten a complaint and yuh a look pon mi and tell mi seh she has just a few days in school left and unuh aguh discharge har just like that!" She raises her voice at the end and I stand not wanting to be here any longer.

My VP steps forward her face set into a frown. "The rules are the rules, Miss Chang, Zola is an exceptional student and so she knows the rules. Sadly, we have to end on—"

"Move unuh nasty bombo." Gasps fill the room and my eyes widen.

But Jesus

What a way Mommy come fi embarrass me more than I am already embarrassed.

"Mommy," I call moving close to her shaking body.

My eyes move around the room, taking in the faces of everyone. Most boast a look of disgust against the backdrop of the light blue room.

Especially, my dean, her lips curl up in a frown hands folded over her flat chest as her face scrunches up looking down at Mommy.

Heaving a heavy sigh, I grab Mommy's hand pulling her back towards the couch I was just seated on to grab her bag.

She flashes away my hand and I quickly step back. "I understand the principle, the rules whatever you are saying." She wipes against her forehead getting calm. She takes a big breath and lets it go before straightening up her form. "I get it all but it's the way she's being discharged from the school. She isn't showing, she is almost ready to give birth yes that's how long she's been attending school pregnant yet she stays on her studies, participates and represents well. She has events coming up, will she not be able to attend them?"
