"Not just alien, Win, but like, proper alien. All stinking, and wet, and- and disgusting", Mickey told her after she called, "And more to the point, it wanted to kill us!"
"I could've died", Jackie shouted in the background, "Rose could've died."
"Are they all right, though? I haven't heard Rose", Winnie asked but before she received an answer the Doctor took it away, "Oi!"
"Is that Ricky? Don't talk, just shut up and go to your computer."
"It's Mickey, and why should I?"
"Mickey, please", Rose weakly muttered in the background.
"Mickey, the idiot, I might just choke before I finish this sentence, but, er, I need you", the Doctor rubbed the back of his head in shame. Winnie just looked at him impressed and he swatted a hand at her to shoo her away.
As he explained to Mickey how to get on the UNIT website he was plugging the phone into the conference phone speaker on the table so he didn't get his next words.
"Say again", he demanded then.
"It's asking for password", Mickey said.
"Buffalo, two f's, one l."
"He can spell", Winnie muttered to him.
"So, what's that website?", they heard Jackie ask.
"All the secret information known to mankind", Mickey explained to her, "See, they've known about aliens for years. They just kept us in the dark."
"Mickey, you were born in the dark", the Doctor rolled his eyes.
"Oi, leave him alone", they heard Rose.
"Thank you", Mickey said, "Password again."
"Just repeat it every time", the Doctor turned away from the phone to keep theorising, "Big Ben - why did the Slitheen go and hit Big Ben?"
"You said to gather the experts, to kill them", Harriet recapped.
"That lot would've gathered for a weather balloon. You don't need to crash land in the middle of London."
"Well, they are hiding, but they do want the planet on mauve alert. What's that about?", Winnie asked.
"Mauve?", Harriet and Rose chorused.
"The Tardis told me, red alert is for camp. Mauve alert is danger", she gave the Doctor a faux arrogant grin and he couldn't help but smile a little.
"Oh, listen to her", Jackie sighed.
"I'm trying, Mum", Winnie frowned.
"Well, I've got a question for you, if you don't mind", Jackie asked, "Since that man walked into our lives, I have been attacked in the streets, I have had creatures from the pits of hell in my living room and my daughters disappeared off the face of the Earth."
"We told you what happened", Rose muttered.
"I'm talking to him", Jackie shut her down, "'Cause I've seen this life of yours, Doctor. And maybe you get off on it, and maybe you think it's all clever and smart, and at least I have Rose here with me, but you tell me. Is my daughter safe?"
The Doctor and Winnie looked at one another. A staring battle seemed to ensue, which Winnie lost when she looked down and said, "I'm fine."
"Is she safe?", Jackie didn't like that answer, "Will they always be safe? Can you promise me that?", there was a heavy pause, "Well, what's the answer?"
