Chapter 27
The next morning Nate picked me up to go to school. I was so relieved when I found out that I didn't have to carpool with Kristie. Honestly I have no idea what she thinks of me right now, but I would be lying if I said I didn't care. I mean, even though I was still mad at her and thinks she's crazy, I still feel so sorry for her. My heart would have been broken in a million pieces if I had found out that Nate had chosen her instead.
"Hey sweetie. Ready for school today?" He grabbed my hand as he backed out of my driveway.
I bit my lip and nodded in response. "Yeah, I guess."
He smiled and let go of my hand so he could have two hands on the steering wheel. "Don't worry. Remember, I'll be here for you."
"Thanks Nate. You're the best." At a stoplight I leaned over and pecked him on the cheek. I noticed that he began blushing which just made me giggle. Nate was so cute.
By the time we pulled into the school parking lot, Nate's phone had chimed a few times. After parking the car, he pulled out his phone to check his messages.
"Oh dang." He muttered as he scrolled through them.
"What? What's going on?" I asked curiously.
"Logan's coming back today."
My eyes widened as our gazes locked. He sensed my tension and reached for my hand. "There's nothing to worry about. If he tries to win you back I'll inform him that we're dating. He's not a bad guy Katie. He won't try to steal you away if he knows for a fact that you're already with someone else."
Nodding slowly, I was about to reply when there was a knock on the window. I turned to see that it was Stacy, her face in strained in a look of panic.
I quickly motioned for her to stand back as I opened the door and got out. "What happened? Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?"
"You have to see this." She grabbed my arm and began pulling me towards the front entrance of the school.
I glanced back and saw Nate following quickly behind, carrying both of our backpacks. Looking back at where Stacy was pulling me, I couldn't believe my eyes when we reached the hallway.
There were posters of me and Nate kissing and words underneath that read IS SHE CHEATING ON LOGAN? Looking around, there must have been fifty of them.
"She's kidding right? This is her form of revenge? Hardly anybody knows me at this school and those who do wouldn't even care about my relationship status. This is stupid." I grabbed a poster off the wall and crumpled it.
Nate finally caught up and looked at the mess around us. "Did you not tell anyone that you and Logan broke up?"
"I- I thought I did." Thinking about it for a moment, I realized that it wasn't really something that I had publicly announced or anything like that.
He frowned and turned to me. "Well either way you're right. This is stupid." He walked over to a wall and pulled down two more posters. "Let's get this cleaned up."
I nodded and began pulling down posters with him. Stacy eventually joined in. We would get weird stares every once in a while from people walking through but I tried my best to ignore them. After cleaning up a large majority of them, a familiar voice interrupted us.
"Hey, what are you guys doing?" Matt stood in the hallway entrance, watching us curiously. He walked over to one of the posters we hadn't taken down yet and looked at. He furrowed his eyebrows and glanced back up at us. "What kind of shit is this? Also..." He looked at me and Jacob. "Since when were you guys a thing?"
